Default About to buy Alien 2+ tripple

I'm just about to take the plunge and buy my first DVB Linux box to play with..

I know nothing about these boxes and have never used anything like it. I wanted one that did Sat & freeview tv and the alien seemed to tick the right box here, just a shame I can't put a harddisk inside.

they are £99 delivered on ebay.

Are they good, is there anything better for around the £100 mark ?

    cheers.

Is that from Lavatronics as someone bought an Amiko from them in the next thread down and had a bad experience with the vendor.

No mate, it's from a eBay seller based in Dublin. (vortex-saterlite)

I've had mine 3 years now. Does the job and they are good value at £100. Get the vix blue image off the lavatronics forum and your laughing. Cracking HD picture on it.

Just don't expect a £300 box for that price and you will be happy.

I've had one for 5 years, it still works but not a huge amount of support due to the chipset used and can be very clunky.
Just use enough water to cover your vegetables, the same goes for when you're having a bath....

As other members have the same box and no issues then its a good punt.
Personally having had Sat boxes since 2005 inc Dreambox 7020 i would say an Enigma base receiver might give more support for not much more cash.

Extrend do an ET8000 box thats not much more money and takes a 2.5/3.5 drive. There are also budget enigma 2 boxes about.

I've got both AA2 and ET8000. The ET8000 is far superior, however it did cost around £185 inc p&p.

I found the best E2 image for AA2 was HDMU. Picture quality on the SH4 box is better than the mipsel one.

I also have the Xtrend and they are now around the £150 mark.

I've had loads of Satellite boxes and so far the Xtrend is the best i have had for the price. Save some more money and get a better box is my advice.

As a first box stay away if you are a rookie it will be a ball ache. one of the worst boxes Ive ever had.

J-Tag 360 RGH 360, PS3 Super Slim, Xbox 360 Slim, WDTV Live with CFW, Vu+ Solo 2, Dreambox 500HD Connected to 1M Motorised Dish.

Wish I had seen this and taken it on-board, it's a nightmare to get working properly.

Vix blue + enigma was a breeze.. rest is far to advanced for my knowledge, makes a great freeview box though
