    Default Firestick vs MXQ

ive set up both and found the MXQ quadcore android box to be alot better

i know the firestick is popular but is there any advantage over the cheaper faster android box?

as an aside each firestick i have set up has been roasting to the touch after less than an hour plugged in

Mine doesn't get mega hot. It gets warm, but nothing serious given it's size and how hard it works.
I've stayed with the Firestick so far because it has a nice interface (with Firestarter) and the remote is perfect. I hear nothing but bad stuff about box remotes and most tend to go for these Chinese keyboard things with a pad on. Ugh.
I like it's small form factor too - it's great for chucking in my bag to use when travelling. I am looking at a Fire TV box next - I like having Amazon Video/Netflix/Spotify all on one device natively. If I stumble upon a decent Android box though for cheap enough, I'd give it a shot. I understand I'd benefit from more RAM and processor speed but I think that is the only advantage. I think I paid 25 or 30 quid for this so not much in it price wise.
There's a monitor style TV on a site I occasionally have to visit. The fucking thing is plugged in tight against the wall on a bracket and there's no other power sockets. Being able to run the Firestick from the TV's usb port means I can run power it up use the radio in Kodi. I guess there are advantages depending on how someone needs to use it.

Really no contest an Android box is better 'BUT' a lot of non tech people are a lot happier using a firestick for example I got my Mum a firestick and she is happy using it but not so sure I could have talked her into using an android box.

yes it does, but better still there is an app for your phone, its much better as you can drop a keyboard down instead of scrolling round the alphabet

The remote is great. You can also install Mouse Toggle if needed which turns the up/down/left/right into a mouse pointer. It's actually not as quick as the regular movement on the keyboard, but it's handy in some applications.

    Thanks to Zoots

I've seen them on fleabay around the £25 mark delivered but i'm sure i've seen them else where for £18 but can't remember where.....

You can get Plex on the firestick IIRC, I was going to try set that up with a private server, kodi with a build, amazon prime sub and connect my local media to kodi and set up Plex on my server for remote access.

Some private guys won't touch Plex on the firestick because its not pin activated unless its the voice activated one .

Guess I won't be able to move my server sub to the firestick then... I've only used that sub a handful of times and more often than not it didn't work, will have to try it again on my now TV.
