XboxOne Can of worms post - Xbox or PS4 ? read in...

    Hi all,

I know this is opening a right can of worms and is an age old debate (which I've been involved in since NES vs master system and Spectrum vs c64) but I can't decide which console to buy.

I bought a PS4 a little while after launch and enjoyed it briefly but because I was mega busy it ended up sitting unused for months on end and eventually I sold it on after probably using it for less than 10 hours total.

I now have a bit more time on my hands again and fancy another console. I am a bit loathed to just buy another PS4 even though everyone bangs on that they are the better choice, more powerful etc so was leaning towards an Xbox one instead, but mostly because I want to play Halo 5 (I have adored every episode in the Halo series).

Am I crackers ? Should I swallow my pride and get ps4 again or is the Xbox a decent choice still ?

    Thank you

    Malty

Having had a PS4 for about 2 months about a year ago. I decided to get an XBOX on Monday and plugged for the XBOX Elite Bundle.
LOVING it so far. I went for it not because of the SSD drive but because it includes the £120 Elite controller and with the vouchers I had accumulated from an Amazon friend it cost me very little.

The controller is a very special bit of kit.
On paper the PS4 may be more powerful but on the games I have played on both (as still have friends with PS4's) there is fuck all difference. Some games I would say are better on the ONE. Still getting to grips with the UI which is VERY different to the 360.

My 2p after 2/3 days in. I would get this even if I didn't have the discount vouchers. It is a fucking good machine and I will be keeping it and it will get a lot more use than the PS4 ever did.

Completely disagree about the PS4 being the better choice and regularly use both. LIVE is FAR better on XBOX too.

and yes.. HALO is fucking brilliant.

    Thanks to piggzy

People think the PlayStation outstrips the XBOX but it doesn't they are nearly on par with each other.

I agree with Piggzy the Xbox Elite controller is awesome remapping it for each game or as I have said before on Halo I have a Sit'n'Stay setting and a Run'n'Gun setting loaded so if sit back with a sniper I put it in that mode longer hair trigger slow reaction time of sticks etc and run'n'gun is everything is loose. paddles underneath usually the same Jump and Reload on the long paddles and switch weapon on a short etc.

But the other thing the Xbox has up its sleeve it the HDMI input I cannot live without this snap the TV to the side and continue playing.

If that not enough for you just have the TV on big screen and play your xbox on ur win 10 pc instead ;-)

I think the 'which is better' is a load of bollox unless you are sitting them side by side and really anal about it, I think the answer is really which is better for you and I can only really spin the case for Xbox one.

I got Xbox One as I had a decent group of friends to play with on Xbox 360 and most of them went for Xbox One, Xbox seems to have a lot less downtime than Playstation going by my G+ group, moving forward they have monthly Dashboard updates mainly adding features requested by members. You have the backward compatibility feature adding more games all the time which means any arcade games you purchased will be there to download if they are on the list and any digital downloads, I much prefer the Xbox controller to the Playstation one, I think the exclusives balance out against each other and would often depend on your preferences.

I would say everything else like monthly free games is on a par but I am sure you will get a view from someone who favours Playstation on that, Kinect in my opinion is a waste of time as it really isn't supported in many games and I found the voice commands annoying in the end and unplugged mine, the PC app for Xbox is great for streaming games to PC along with some really nice features.

Edit: just to add everyone I know who has the elite controller cry wanks over it and it is without doubt a nice bit of kit (knowing how you love your gadgets) but for me the price is a step too far and my Mrs would have my knackers on a plate if she found out I spent £130 on a controller.

Not interested in Kinect, not really what I'm looking for. I don't really care about pure horsepower either it's the whole experience. My main draw is FPS games like Halo.

How far does the backwards compatibility go ? I didn't know there was any ? There are a ton of 360 games I never played properly.

Thanks for the replies so far guys, I'm leaning towards the Xbox even more now and it was purely for halo before.

Completely agree. The only reason I got one is due to discount + the bundle. £120-£130 for a controller is a fucking piss take and I would never pay that but I know plenty who have. Each to their own.
I do love it mind. Personally think £89.99 would be a fairer price.

PS4 all the way for me, the only thing i'm envious of the Xbone is backwards compatibility, we're stuck with PSNow which is another Sony rip off.

I paid £120 on day of release for it and think its value for money if you compare it to some of the Scuff One controllers they are more expensive with less functionality. https://eu.scufgaming.com/xboxone/
But is like anything if you going to use it then you happy to pay the price ;-)

Down side is that all the rechargeable battery packs for me original xbox controller don't fit the elite and I cannot seem to find any compatible at the mo so is back to good old rechargeable batteries.

Didn't realise that. FFS that is stupid. I assume there will be one soon enough though.

Edit: found one akimba : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Cha.../dp/B015FDQSRU

Will wait for a higher capacity battery though.

Thanks everyone. I think it's going to be Xbox. Doesn't seem to be any proper killer deals around at the moment, unless I get a bare console from Simply Games on eBay, which is £220

I'm not over interested in Fifa which it seems most of the cheaper packs come with.

Other than that, Smyths do a downloadable game (one of four) plus another game pack from a decent selection, for £280

What are the best FPS games available for it at the moment ?

    Thanks,

I am now a much more casual gamer than I once was (no 10 hour daily sessions) and I love my xbone to bits. Yeah the ui is still a bit clunky, but once it's up and running it's definitely manageable. Would love an elite controller, but like BB; the misses would have shall we say 'concerns' about spending that amount on a controller right now. Hopefully soon though

As for fps: I still play bf4 lol

    Here is my story.

Had every console since the Atari 2600. so not going to go too far back.

Mad into gaming all the way up to the ps2, after having it for 6 months I lost interest and gave it away. Lost interest and never really played a console again, until the Xbox 360. Boom, i was back into gaming big time, loved my Xbox360. Bought a Wii U, played that most evenings for a couple of years. Then decided to take the jump to next gen consoles and bought a ps4, played it for a few months and have lost interest again. If my history has told me something! STAY AWAY FROM SONY CONSOLES! They are boring and lack the experience you get with Nintendo and Microsoft consoles.

If it hasn't already been mentioned you can also sign up for EA Access, where for 3 quid a month or 20 odd a year; you have unlimited access to lots of ea games. It also gives you a 10 hour trial of all new EA titles and 10% off any purchases. Pats for itself.

I went for xbox one but was very tempted by PS4 as a lot of my friends went across.

Similar to Bald Bouncers comments you need to work out what is best for you.

For me I mainly play Halo and have done for a long time.

Having said that the new ones are basically the same as the old ones so it's not gonna change your life playing Halo 5 vs 4.

I really wanted the master chief collection to be awesome as it included all of the old maps but as it turns out it was shite and didn't really work and so I haven't played much of the old multiplayer i used to love.

It would be great if i had more friends to play against on Rocket League and cod and things like that but it's sort of halved the number of friends i can play online with.

One game that was really good was Titanfall and EA access in general in fact. For £32 ish you get Battlefield 4, Hardline, Titanfall, Dragon Age, Need for Speed, Plants vs Zombies - Garden Warfare and lots of sports games which i think is a really good deal.

Although Titanfall 2 i coming to both consoles i think.

Definitely prefer the xbox controller, although I think probably the 360 contoller was better than the one. Elite is too expensive for a piece of plastic.
Reminds me when i bought a racing stick for a lot of money and it was shit.

Kinect is a waste of time unless you want to use skype with your tv.

I quite like some of the TV integration as it tells you things like what's trending on live TV.

Backward compatability is a bit iffy in places but if the games aren't too demanding then means you get to carry across some of your old library so can sell off your 360.
Also, I quite often use the streaming to laptop when the Mrs is watching shite on TV.

In terms of exclusives both appear to have some good ones and most games seem to be on both anyway.

Xbox one: Halo 5, Forza, Ori, Crackdown? Gears 4?
PS4: The last of us, Journey, Uncharted 4.

Although if you have a good enough PC then a lot of them might come to that at some point.

The interface of the xbox one is shit but feels like it's improving gradually.
It also can play most video files from USB and wireless network and has plex app. (ps4 probably does as well).

Recently it got Sky app as well which means you can use it as a multiroom box (or with someone elses login).

One of the best features would be Game sharing though.
I'd say both console sell digital games at rip off prices but I don't like using discs anymore.
Game sharing means you and a friend can split the costs in half as you can both play them.
It also means only one of you needs to pay for gold, ea access, etc.

Overall, i'm pretty happy with the console.

I wonder if you posted this in the PS4 section you would get the same response.

    3 Thanks given to inspectercoley
