    Default decent cheap box

just after two boxes for the kids rooms, as i have some credit on amazon so was going to get them from there. at the moment i aint bothered about recording just want an easy straightforward box, pref an enigma 2 box looking to pay around £50 each. whats the best box for that sort of money was looking at a dm500 as i know there are plenty of images which auto update so no need to keep updating the channel list etc and you can use the plugins was looking at maybe getting you tube working or kodi direct, anyone got any advice or recomend any basic boxes

    cheers gents

cheers mate cant decide between a zgemma or an amiko mini combo, i like the combo as it can just sticks onto the back of the tv and you have the cable feed to fall back on if anything happens to the sat scene, has anyone seen these amiko combos

Zgemma do the H1 which has a cable and sat tuner. I can't speak for the Akimo but I have a Zgemma 2s which is the same as the h1 except has 2 sat tuners, great little box.

Amiko mini are a pain in the arse. You need to update channels yourself and software is shit

They're easy to program, have plenty of firmware options and just work.

cheers satzzz think i will just go for the zgemma as it just ticks the right boxes wont bother with the combo though it was more a nice to have than a need to have.

If you get the Zgemma H1 then you'll be able to get the sky hd channels through the cable, with the rigtht sub of course The twin sat only gives you non sky channels in HD, e.g. BT sport, boxnation, fta hd etc.

    Thanks to beerman

i just went for the sat box prob will kick my self for not getting the combo in a few months time, but the kids wont be too bothered about hd anyway so it shouldnt be an issue, it will prob be opnly used for disney channel and cartoon network anyway.

With regards to the cable option. I haven't used (nor paid) for cable tv for years, last time I did it was analogue (I have broadband and phone). Does it need to be activated at Virmin and a basic TV package paid for, or is it as per the old boxes with the signal still being there to freely tap in to?

I was with sly, sacked them £70/ month and now have fibre via another supplier and a box with an annual sub. Big savings and extra channels. Pity about fewer HD

    Hi,

I think I am going to go for the combo H.2H box. I see you can buy them direct from Zgemma on their UK site. Is there a reason why you shouldn't?

Also... I have a VM box on the wall but have never had VM personally.. Do I need to do anything? Get minimum sub with them etc?
