This is what happens when you have a product with no real competition. Microsoft Office stands tall in the landscape of productivity suites, and the company shared a whole bunch of statistics.
At the second day of the BUILD 2016 developer conference.
While several alternatives are available on both desktop and mobile, and governments across the globe continue to reduce reliance on it, the Office suite continues to boast huge usage numbers. Some 1.2 billion users across the globe right now.
This figure includes 85% of all Fortune 500 companies that use Microsoft’s productivity suite.
And usage statistics show that people on various devices, from traditional desktops to notebooks and tablets, hybrids and convertibles, and even smartphones running Windows, Android and iOS have made the choice of using Office.
In fact, mobile now makes up a significant amount of usage — Office Mobile has been downloaded 340 million times, up from the 100 million mark that was recorded six months ago.
Office 365 is, of course, not far from this success.
The cloud-based version of the productivity suite is also widely used, and Microsoft revealed during BUILD that it now processes 4 trillion emails per day using the service.
According to the company, around 50 thousand small business customers sign up for Office 365 every month, which is another steady figure for the software titan.
Along with revealing these statistics, Redmond also finally confirmed that Office Add-ins are now also coming to Mac, along users on the platform possibilities to extend their applications.
