depends what kids of games your son wants to play, and your budget. You can build a reasonable machine pretty cheaply, but if he's expecting to run the latest games at the highest settings, he will be disappointed.

Are you needing a full system, with monitor etc?

As above it depends what types of games and what settings and what monitor he is planning to play on.

If he is wanting to play the likes of GTAV and the new COD games on a PC with decent settings on a decent moniitor then £300 is not going to cut it I am afraid.

Just built myself a new pc to enable me to play all games at max and one of my two graphics cards costs nearly twice as much as your budget...

If the games he is wanting to run are older or at lower settings then there are loads of options need to know what you / he is wanting to get out of it?

Yerp, theres a few videos on youtube about building a PS4 beating PC for the same or less but usually they have other shortcomings. It may be worth taking a look at those to see what you can expect.

He's got a PS4, give him a shoe up his ass and tell him to be grateful! When I was a lad....

He plays the new cod game and gta. So they are the latest ones yes. I'm lost with spec as I am now on a MacBook. Not built a pc in 20 odd years and have seen loads of pre builds on eBay but have not got a clue what is what.

buying a used system from ebay can sometimes fit the bill, loads for sale as people who like to have the latest and greatest sell their old system.

A place worth looking is https://uk.pcpartpicker.com have loads of peoples builds, links to buy the gear and peoples comments on how good/bad they are.

Honestly though i would hate and see if you can get more of a budget. I recently spent £900 on a complete system (needed monitor, keyboard and mouse) and whilst it will run most games on ultra, its already starting to get games that it cannot. It doesn't do 4k, but runs very nicely at 1080p which for me is more than enough when gaming.

I would also wait until the new GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 cards are out as they will offer more performance for the money, but also because you will be able to get a more than decent current generation card (GTX 980ti, 980, 970 & 960) for a LOT cheaper then they are going for now.

    Cheers
    Scottio
