Default Raspberry Pi 3 for Torrent download & plex server

Hey all, I'm looking to get a pi 3 to use as a torrent box to ensure my ratios are consistent without using too much power but also want to use the same pi as a plex server to stream the downloaded media within my own network.

Will the latest pi be suitable or do I need to look for a micro atx / low power solution?

    Thanks in advance
    Meh....

If you are direct playing I'm sure the pi will have enough power to run a plex server. I very much doubt a Pi would be any good at transcoding.

I recently built a server that pulls 35w at full power. Not as low power as the pi will be but better than my old power hungry server that was pulling around 10 times that.

I'm just after something cheap but powerful enough at the moment and the Pi3 seems good enough. I could just play direct from pi to TV via hdmi but my Samsung has plex app built in so figured best bet.

Plus if wanted to stream upstairs can just load on iPad up there.

What install image would be best you think to do both? Can I just add to Noobs image?

I also need to find a cheap seller of pi3 if any suggestions for full kit supplier.

Does the Plex app on Smart TV transcode? Interesting, I wonder if the PS4 one does too.

Could be interested in doing something similar.

If the player is not designed for the format, it will transcode.

    Example,
MKV with 5.1 Audio, will usually transcode on a PS4.
Same as Stereo TV would transcode the audio.

If a player doesn't support 1080p, it'll be downgraded to 720p and transcode.
This, along with 5.1 Audio down to Stereo needs a VERY powerful server to manage this on the fly.

I was under the assumption any transcoding was done on the Plex Server?
I have a Samsung and if the stream struggles I tell it to lower the resolution, but I though this was just telling the server to do that.

Plex is fantastic though. Stop playing in one room/device and pick up exactly where you were in/on another.
