    Default Advice on eBay sale

    Hey all,

Sold an iPhone 6 plus on eBay and the seller received it last Friday. I've just now received a message to say it's faulty, earphone speaker low/muffled. Obviously I didn't sell it like that, it was mint.

I am a little concerned that he may have dropped or damaged it somehow or even trying and palm off a faulty iPhone. Do I have any rights or will PayPal take his side?

He has a decent rating and I have 300+ (100%)

    Cheers

Don't think there's much you can do except accept a return and see if you can recognise it as a different phone or that it has been damaged.

Don't spose you got the IMEI?

    Thanks to Mule

I took a photo of the 'about' screen so I have the serial number. I guess I will have to swallow it, but I am convinced he's pulling a fast one or simply has buyers remorse.

eBay will always side with the buyer in these cases, just be as nice as you can accept the return then inspect the phone, if they have tried a fast one call ebay and explain whats happened and you have proof its not the same phone. Could be a genuine fault if so it will still be under apple warranty so you could tell them to take to an apple approved store for free repair.

    Thanks to consoles

From reading others experiences with paypal over the years I suspect if they returned an iPhone 4 with a cracked screen and no guts in it they would still refund them.

Tricky position as eBay/PayPal take the easy route of siding with the buyer which is frustrating in cases such as yours but handy as a buyer. Have you tried getting him on the phone so you can have a proper chat about it? I tend to prefer keeping it to email so there is a record but maybe you can get through to him and work out if he sounds legitimate or not.

I've gone for the 'no problem matey' route, I'll just refund him after I get it back and its in the same state I sent it.
I'm guessing he found another cheaper or doesn't like the 6 Plus and just wants out, so telling me there is an intermittent fault with the earpiece volume is his way. If I push it further, he could drop water or blow hard into the speaker out of spite, just to prove his point and then I'm left with an unsaleable phone.

    Lesson learnt.

Make sure it is the same phone and if it isn't and he won't budge block it with your network.

Just received another message from the guy telling me that it seems to be working now and he'll keep it.

How very odd, perhaps it was just a test to see whether I would be a cunt seller

Might have always intended to keep it, but he was seeing if you would bung him £50 to make the issue go away.
