Default windows 10 startup taking forever!

Hi, looking at a laptop that has W10 on it and it is taking forever to start up..and when it does trying to run anything again is very unresponsive until a long time after boot..even then it's slow..
I run malware bytes, EEK and FRST on it and even though there was some malware, nothing much and all removed.
tried a fix involving the pagefile and turning off some settings about reporting(google found suggestions) but still the same. I read it could be the AV(which is TREND) but haven't removed that yet..
Got it into safe mode and seems to work better..
tried reset this PC, Startup repair, system restore and all it comes back with is there was a problem with this option and to restart.. goes through diagnosing PC but still ends up the same..
baffled! if someone can help with this I would be very grateful.
    cheers

If it is better in safe mode the it should be some background processes or startup items at fault. You can run task manager, click more details at the bottom, switch to performance tab and see if anything is running high. Then go to processes and sort by memory to see if there are any resource hogs.

You should also have a startup tab, deselect anything you can from there and reboot to test. You can also run msconfig from the run box (Windows key + r) and select services tab, hide Microsoft services, deselect anything you can. You can even deselect stuff you do want as a test to try and identify the problem.

Open elevated command prompt and type "sfc /scannow" and press enter, this will check the integrity of system files.

Download and and run crystaldiskinfo to check the SMART status of the drive, it may be a HDD problem. Is using an SSD check the firmware is up to date.

Run Ccleaner and clear out the temporary items, in the tools tab find and remove any software you don't need.

These are the basics which help in most cases, win 10 seems to run pretty well on old hardware. If all else fails a clean install would be an idea and if that also runs slow consider replacing the drive with am SSD.

    Thanks to evilsatan

Google windows 10 Media creation tool

Download + Create bootable USB and just reinstall windows.

But sounds more like a failing hard drive.

I would recommend a clean install so copy off your files before hand
