In terms of arcade stick, build your own. Seriously it is so easy now with the USB encoders etc..
You can then add as many buttons as you wish, where you want them and configuring them in Retro Pie is a doddle.

    Thanks to Squizza

I use a PS3 pad via BT, you need to set it up with a cable first then configure in the settings a bit of hassle at first .

Got everything working, it really is very simple as Mystical_2k says. Write the image, boot up, configure controller.

I don't have much of a rom collection any more because of hdd failure years ago but have downloaded a mame rom (starforce) and an nes rom and they both work fine.
Dropped a psx iso in .7z format into the psx folder but the emu didn't show up so extracted it to bin/cue and it's working fine.

Very impressive how fluid and polished it all is, I can see why people are profiteering from them on ebay.

Yep, ISO images must be uncompressed so no .zip or .7z

Can't seem to get rtype to work. I've tried the USA and the bootleg so far no dice. It just dumps me back to the game list.

Haven't tried the mame4all one yet because as I recall it uses a different romset.

OK, I'm having real mixed results with arcade roms. I don't know whether I'm downloading the wrong set or what but it seems really random what works and what doesn't. For example Pacland which is a favourite of mine seems to only work in FBA and not in mame even though it's not that demanding a rom (and the sound isn't quite right) - and it has to be the world rom. None of the other variants seem to work in any emulator.

Starforce works great which is good as that's my favourite arcade game of all time.

R-type doesn't seem to work at all no matter what emulator or rom I try.

I do feel like I'm probably missing something in the config ?

ZX spectrum emulation works well, have tried a few .z80 files, manic miner etc.

    cheers,

    malty

    Romset Used: .139
Total Games Emulated: 8782 (includes clones etc...)
lr-mame2010 COMPATIBILITY LIST feel free to contribute to the list.
You will get errors loading some mame roms, not all roms are compatible or working. You will need to download ROMs that are confirmed working with your version of MAME

    BIOS

Some ROMs may need the neogeo.zip BIOS in order to run. Place the neogeo.zip BIOS file in the same folder as your MAME ROMs. For example:
    /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-mame4all
Each MAME version requires a different neogeo.zip, so make sure you choose the suitable file for the emulator according to its specification found in the .dat file. The correct neogeo.zip will normally be found within complete romsets for the MAME version.

I had already seen that document in the wiki or somewhere. I think I need to hunt down a good mame 037b5 rom set as I've had great results with that on other arm platforms with Mame4All

For Retropi they have to be a certain version I read, which is annoying because it appears my archive is not the correct one for most.

Have you installed attract mode? I downloaded an attract-mode image, if you look on youtube it's very nice and works really well with the Pi 3.

I have found and installed a set of 2296 roms all 037b5 and they seem to be working great with lr-mame4all including the ones I was having trouble with.

For anyone looking, I got them here https://archive.org/download/Mame0.37b5RomsAndBios (1.8GB download).

You put them in the roms/mame4all directory, run any game and hold a button for config. Change the emulator default to lr-mame4all from mame4all as it means the coin, start and exit buttons work.

Not sure what you mean by attract mode (I know what it means in an arcade sense) but I'll look that up thanks.

I reckon I've played more with this in 2 days than I have in total with my xbox one. Chucked my favourite PSP game on there, Lumines, not expecting much and it ran perfecly and smoothly. That was 2 hours this evening lost.

I will have to give it a go again on the PSP, I tried a couple of games and it worked but was slow as hell, will try a few more out

I'll try another game or two today as Lumines isn't the most demanding game I'm sure. I loved my psp, need to get caught up on the games.

** edit - just tried chilli con carnage and it gets stuck at the loading screen as the main game starts.

**edit 2 - Every Extend Extra works fine and seems to be full speed.

Has anyone had any joy with UAE ? I installed uae4all and uae4arm but haven't got the kickstart roms yet. Just wondered how good it is.

Also tried a few PC Engine roms. Rtype and outrun are as good as the arcade equivalents.

Get the guys build and honestly there is no hard work to put in. You can switch between Attract Mode and the other UI that Retropie comes with easily.
You might spend 20 mins configuring it but ones done that is it.

Just had one of these arrive in the post. Actually pretty good for £3.45 including 24h delivery!

Still want an arcade stick but might try the secondhand stores as I'm liking that everything is on a budget so far
