    Help BT Infinity

I'm thinking of moving to BT Infinity and opting for the unlimited Infinity 2. It's been years since I moved ISP and just wanted to get some feedback from you tossers before I take the plunge.

    1. Any thoughts on the service, any issues worth noting in advance?
    2. Is it really unlimited? Is there any noticeable traffic shaping etc.?
    2. When you make the switch, presumably there's no down time like there used to be? What's the procedure now?

    Thanks.

Go with Virgin if they're in your area. I'm not a fan of BT but that's mainly because I've worked with them a fair bit over the years and I know what their network is like.

If I was to move house tomorrow and there was no Virgin to the property, as sad as it sounds I'd think twice about it.

    1) Customer service with me was actually ok but hear some horror stories, I got money returned and out of contract early as speeds did not come near estimate given before signing.
    2) it is unlimited as i thrashed it to within an inch of its copper end
3)I had about an hour and a half

than moved to Origin Broadband and been there for 18months.

Used the service for a while now. Get good speeds and regularly do 100Gb a day without issues. Rarely have issues but have to say the help desk are cocksuckers who thinks every call is about shit wireless performance. "So if you log into the router and change your wireless channel to six that will fix your issue." It won't when I am unable to connect to the service cos a cable was cut outside my house and I never mentioned wireless. But other than that rocking.

Been on infinity 2 for about 4 years or so now - had a Home Hub 3 from day one which was initially ok but after the first 18 months or so it gradually began to throw faults - BT refused to deal with them unless I agreed to pay up front for a service call that they would refund if they found it was faulty line - but if the HH3 was faulty than I would have to pay for a replacement HH5 on top of the service call. Needless to say I refused to pay and put up with the occasional reboots needed to get it working again and the fact it regularly crashed if I had more than about 7 wifi devices connected.

Got one of the new super hubs last week for the 8 quid postage and extending the contract for 18 months and it's miles better so I'm really happy again

On Infinity 2 for 4 or 5 years now. Brilliant service. Honestly just had a major outage though in my area. It was an openreach outage so Sky, Talk talk e.t.c all were down too.
Outage lasted about a month (not down completely ... up and down e.t.c) Neighbours who are talk talk and the other sky, basically got lied to whereas BT seemed more open and honest (not completely) and told me what was going on with estimated resolution date which although it dragged on I seemed to be kept informed.

Despite this I would stay with BT as service and speeds have been excellent. Not a fan of the HomeHub but tbh NO isp gives away a decent free router anyway.

To add I was with Plusnet, Sky, Talk talk and BT all using the same openreach wiring and I purchased the same service from all providers. BT & Plusnet have best speeds (but Plusnet too expensive), talk talk by far the worst despite also signing up for the 80/20 Fibre I barely got 55 down from talk talk.

    I think I just waffled a bit.

Had BT infinity 2 since it has been out and only times I have had issues are when there are major BT network issues or some pikey cunts cutting and nicking the copper cables from our telegraph pole.

Xbox daily with 4 of us on the network, wife watching netflix etc without issues. Downloading from Newsgroups (god help me if I actually saw the download quota I have used )

Wouldn't touch virmin with a barge poll if you download a lot. Sure they have the fastest speeds but also the fastest caps when you download too much....

Only thing I would say is........ Ditch the Homehub as soon as you can and get a proper router.....

Thanks for the replies. Think I'm going to go with them, and I can shoehorn the BT Sport android app on to my Nvidia shield box too, so for £5 a month I may as well get that thrown in too.

I moved recently and had to take out an ADSL line for a week before I could order Infinity - on the day of the cutover it died around midnight and then the new line came live later on in the morning, around 11am if I remember rightly.

Might be worth checking what uplink you'd get - if the BT DSL Checker doesn't show that you're likely to get more than 55Mbps down / 10Mbps up you may be financially better off on the Infinity 1 Unlimited package as opposed to Infinity 2 - the only difference I've seen is that Infinity 1 is capped to 10Mbps max upload, and goes up to around 55Mbps download. I'm just having the argument with them now as I'm paying for 2 but I'm only getting 45/6 so I'm trying to get back the cost difference, think it's a tenner a month.

    Thanks to reverend

Nope if it's already shoehorned on than all we need to is run it up the flagpole and push the button on that

I did a check earlier and they reckon 74mbps down and 19 up. If that's pretty close I'll be happy paying for 2, but reality might be something different.

I found BT's estimates to be very accurate. In fact my down speed is often higher than their estimate. For some reason I often get over 90mbps and yes I know how do do a speed test. I do know they are getting ready for higher speeds so this is probably why.

Similar to a few experiences above been with them 7 years now....

    1) Customer service no issues, speed was told about 40 and get about 38 so happy with that based on where my house is...
    2) Never been limited and some months down and up unreal amounts..
    3) No down time here on change, in 7 years only had a day down time due to network issues rest of time always good

Use this to check your speeds as it should estimate impacted line as well as clean:
    https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html

Infinity 1 just came to my area so I ordered right away and been on it a few weeks, bit gutted I am only getting 30 Mbps but that is part of their impacted estimate so can't complain, I do get 7 Mbps upload which still makes it worth it for me as I was on 0.7.

I use a Draytek 2860ac but most people won't need all the features it has.
