Help Best Graphics card for around £150

My Radeon HD6870 has finally given up the ghost so I'm now in the market for a new card.

I've always owned ATI Cards, not really for any other reason apart from the price.
I need to replace it and am well out of the loop these days.

I'm after the best card I can get for upto £150 - if someone has one knocking about I'm also interested, but don't PM me - please post it in the BST as per the rules of the forum! I've already asked after Det's R9, but he see's be inactive ATM.

I'd look into the rx 460 - however, if you can, stretch your budget a little and go for a 470.

Can't go wrong with the bang to buck ratio.

If you can stretch your budget to £185, the Nvidia GTX 1060 is an excellent card. If you can't increase your maximum amount, you should be able to pick up a GTX 970 or AMD R9 290 on ebay for around £150. If you buy a R9 290 or 390, be aware that you will need a decent psu above 600w.

    Thanks to pattikins

Have you tried Facebook groups? I joined one to list some kit and am forever receiving notifications of stuff for sale now.

I did look on FB Groups, but couldn't find a specific group for PC Bits.

Don't really fancy joining the standard For Sale groups because of the amount of notifications of diamonte'd shit I used to get... Tracey decided to post the same thing in 12 different groups after learning that super glue sticks to plimsolls!

So far, I'm seriously considering that 1060 at £185! For the extra few quid for a current model, that's pretty good.

(Will still be deciding til Friday next week, pay day).
Some of the lads on the groups have come up with some great offers, but still weighing it up. It's like minefield, all I want is a decent cards for the cash!

Might ask you lads once the offers are all on the table and see where you would go if you were on a limited budget (I know some of you guys are lucky enough to have deep pockets!) LOL.

As far as I' aware the 1060 only comes in 3gb or 6gb models.

I`m struggling between a rx480 or a gtx 1060 ! 480 you can crossfire if you want in the future if you want but theres no sli for the 1060 ! the 480 is slightly better on dx 12 games than the 1060 but dx 11 the 1060 wins ! cant decide

Personally I won't touch AMD cards these days. They require more power and give off a lot more heat. Plus I've only ever had driver issues with AMD cards in the past.

This is just ingenious slogan throwing dreamed up by nvidea fan boys.

The extra power they require will cost you about £2 a year.

    Capture.PNG

Cool as a cucumber. And this is an old card, with a inferior manufacturing process etc...

I don't want to get in a fan boy war, but it's always best to stick to facts.

    Nvidea cards will be -
    Faster
    Cooler
    More expensive

    AMD cards will be
    Cheaper
    Cost effective (£ per fps)
    Warmer

Driver issues will be had from either manufacturer - touch wood never had a problem with any drivers from either manufacturer, and I've used both.

As for lack of Sli/Cross fire - I'm not sure this is much of an issue. If you wanted to run 2x 1060's why not get a 1070 or 1080?

I agree with the power claim but as a chap who has fixed PC's for nearly 30 years I can agree with you that they run a lot fucking warmer. Almost all fucked PC's I have fixed have had some AMD CPU/GPU in them. Granted they are designed to run hotter than Intel or other GPU's but it deffo causes problems and they do not last as long as other manufacturers as a result not to mention damaging of other nearby components.

I suppose you get what you pay for and AMD are cheaper for this reason. Just me 2p.

I'm being offered a fair few cards, but not sure which to go for, for the best deal.

    Any pointers for this guys?
Details as they have been offered -

    R9 280x = £80
    R9 290 = £100
    R9 380 2GB = £120
    R9 380 4GB = £150
    GTX 970 = £150

Like a mine field this shit. Looked up most and all seem pretty close. I know the 4GB R9 380 is probably the top, but compared the GTX 970?
Checking on eBay, prices can seriously vary on 'X', 'TI' or Reference versions.
Which would you go with and why?
