Default Northern Ireland. Poor internet any alt options.

Hi guys I'm strongly considering moving to NI and have got my eye on a house. The internet is currently provided by BT and is only around the 2mbs mark

the house is ready wired for satellite broadband. However this seems like quite an expensive option for something that still not very fast.

is there any other options that I should be considering guys? Anything that can be done via 4g or how is sky's internet served up is that via dish??

any help would be great as I need to submit an offer today.

4G might be your best bet, Sky's BB comes down the phone line, if you have satellite BB it still needs the phone line for upload.

Thank you mate, thats what I thought. Does anyone know of any 4g sims with unlimited data or have they all been stopped now?

I know that with 3 PAYG you can buy a bundle for £25 that gives you "all you can eat" data for 30 days, I have used it and used over 6gb in 7 days with no problem

I looked into this before and I couldn't find an unlimited 4G plan which allows tethering and couldn't even find a specilist 4G sim which allowed tethering and a high amount of data each month. If you find anything can you let me know as I have an office which is on a reallyyyy slow ADSL line (awaiting a leased line) who could benefit.

None are truly unlimited, but have a look at Giffgaff they do allow tethering and quiet cheap bundles.

Bt are not too bad. There sim which they now allow tethering on, you get 20gb of 4g data and it's 25 quid if you don't have BB.

blue box broadband in n.ire but it doesnt get many good reports.
I did consider two phone lines and do line bonding getting 4mb ie two 2mb lines
which was as cheap as satellite and unlimited

Hi guys really sorry for the late reply on this my worlds been blow apart with this move. I forgot how full on buying selling and moving is, made harder with kids!

Anyhow cheers for all the replies, I'm keen to try and suss this out as its going to really bug me and potentially feck up my work if I can't get something more than 2mb/s.

The postcode for the place is BT52 2LU.

Me and the missus are with 3 at the moment. Used to be unlimited data but its now caped to 12gb (i think) (Cozzy how did you get 30gb mate?)

Interesting about the two phone lines cozzy never consider that, is two the max.

My kids are mental about youtube and the net so I guess that any capped plan would get bashed very quickly

Surly there must be something available in this day and age? Sooo Annoying!

Your moving not too far from me mate. My in laws have satellite bb but its still shite. Best I can suggest is get a house in the town rather than in the country. You will probably struggle to get decent mobile signal there either.

Brilliant mate it's a good spot, it the house that's drawn us so moving closer to town isn't happening.

ive checked the signal about the house and 4g is decent via 3 (who I use) outside so planned to use an out areal and 4g router it's just the shitty data limits that are bugging me.

is the exchange likely to be updated anytime soon?

also bud do you know what satellite service they are using.. Why's it shite slow or drops?

    cheers pal,

I currently live somewhere with no phone line, I am using my three 30gb tether along with a BT wifi with Fon account from my previous employer that's still active I am running two laptops, a xbox one and a ps4 using these and getting by
I am looking at getting an external aerial to boost the BT signal but not sure what to buy if anyone has any experience.

    Thanks to Fear345

I've just been speaking to sky and they have said that Sky Fibre is available at the address... 39-40mb/s I doubt I'll get anywhere near that speed but it encouraging to hear its available!

That's a turn up for the books. The problem with the satellite is the ping is massive and it struggles to handle more than two connections. Its crazy expensive and capped at 20gb too.

    Edit

I believe the company is called tooway that they use.
