Default Wi-Fi connectivity to PC- Reset Wirelsss Adapter

I had Virgin broadband installed last week. I can connect wirelessly through my phone and laptop but I need to reset my wireless adapter on my PC every time I wish to connect to it.

I called Virgin tech support who were less than helpful. I’ve also googled for help but haven’t found a solution.

At some point I will connect via Ethernet but I plan on decorating my living room so don’t want to be stapling Ethernet cable to the skirting boards and then removing it again a few weeks later to paint so I’ll attach the Ethernet cable after I decorate.
I just wondered if anyone could offer me a solution in the meantime.

    Copied from a googled search

If you have the issue I'm thinking of then this is no fault of Virgin Media. This is a known issue with Windows Vista and it seems, Windows 7. This has nothing to do with the internet connection unless your internet light goes out on the router (It is the LAN,your connection between pc and router)

I work for another ISP in 2nd Line Tech Support and come across this often.

Sometimes updating your network card drivers and unticking IPv6 in it's properties can help. I had the issue myself quite often but it happens rarely now since I updated my drivers

Just try googling 'Local Only Connection for Vista' or Win7 and you can see that it's a widespread issue.

    Hope this helps

    TRY that

Cheers mate but I'm on Windows 10.

Wireless adapter is a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 and no update available. I'll try unticking IPV6 though to see if that helps.

I've had similar issues but with win 7 machines. There's a setting on the router for the 2g signal. It has 3 options, something like furthest range, highest speed and a 'middle' setting. Try setting it to the highest speed (most stable). These aren't the exact terms but you get the drift .

Can you run network troubleshooting? If it comes back with one or more network protocols missing then it's a Windows 10 known issue, loads of fixes out there that work at varying degrees but I have found the best is to run an elevated cmd then use this command:
    Code:
    netcfg -d
More info here, watch out for the ads/sponsored bits as they are in the article and look like steps but they aren't: http://windowsreport.com/network-pro...ng-windows-10/

Some other info here if that isn't the error: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...nection-issues

I switched off IPv6 and all seems to be working now. Thank you for the advice 😀
