Tech Will a Samsung 4k-upscaling BR Player upscale USB stored 1080p movie files?

Will a Samsung 4k-upscaling BR Player (BD-H6500) upscale USB stored 1080 movie files to (near) 4K quality/resolution, if I plug my hard drive into its USB socket? Will they play at 2160?

They usually would mate, depending on the TV you may find that the TV does a better job than the BR player.

The Oppo players and the Panasonic UB900 currently have a great rep for upscaling to 4k.

Personally found yes and no. Basically they seem to upscale depending on the file type/encoding on the files in the USB regardless of it being HDD or Flash.

I found trial and error but for the most part .mkv's worked. Sorry I cant be more specific but I never really dug any deeper. Also I am generalising as it wasn't exact same model as above.

    Thanks to piggzy

IT's my first dalliance with 4K - couldn't afford a much, but the tv is a Panasonic (B-bit panel) model 58DX750.

Still tweaking the colours and custom settings - I can't afford to get it calibrated other than the home-users way (folks charge a fortune to use special calibration equipment).

The player did it fine on a Star Trek Bluray btw. Need to try the HDD now...

What the fuck.. people do that ???

Surely a home cinema setup doesn't require that ???

Edit: Surely that is useless. What is good to one persons eye another may not like. Gotta be a personal thing surely not what a machine says I should like ???

They're a nice TV mate, 3D on the DX750 is better than the top of the range DX902 this year and in some reviews the DX750 didn't fare that far behind.

The Samsung upscaling is usually sharper and from what I understand upscaling is a personal preference thing - some people love the Samsung razor sharp look whereas others prefer the more natural Panasonic upscaling.

So the TV will upscale to 4K-ish the movies I have on my HDD Rev?

And yes, the 3D is pretty damned good.
