    Default Home ethernet ports

    Hi all,

Moving into a new flat soon and looking to cable ethernet ports into 2 rooms from a utility cupboard. From what I've seen all walls are pretty solid and I will not be able to run the cables behind the walls.

What I'm looking to to is run the cables behind the skirting board and bring them up to a box that will sit on the exterior of the wall. The back plate and the front plate will stick out. Can you get such a thing? everything i can find appears to be back plates to put inside the wall, not externally?

    Thanks

    Scottio

Youll need to measure the depth of the network module for clearance, but this is what your looking for

Where would the cables go in on those? Doesn't look like any holes in the bottom?

They should have weaker spots that you use a screwdriver to snap off to make the hole. This is what I do anyway, that or drill them out if they are solid.

Are you replacing the skirts? For you can buy skirts with cable runs within them.

That's how I have my man cave wired. 4 ports go to the other side of the room. Both ends I have Krone KM8 jacks in some cheap external B&Q boxes. One end is behind a pull up projector screen and the other behind a sofa so they are not seen.

If you are renting I would go with the suggestion of powerline adaptors, that way if you move you could just take them with you.

My only problem with powerline adaptors is the failure rate of them. I've gone through so many sets as to be unreal. They just stop working! Even had to electrics checked at my last place and they were clean so not a spiking issue.

What units did you use? I use Solwise and have had some die but this counts for a small percentage compared to the amount I have ordered.

I've had 1 out of about 8 TPlink ones die but they have a 3 year warranty and were replaced without fuss.

Yeah I toyed with the home plug idea, but for the number if ports I'll need it'll be cheaper to lay cables.
