Advice Advice: Friend has had email account nicked by husband - Ideas on what to try....

So, my friend is 8 and a bit months pregnant, and her husband walked out on her yesterday. He says she's cheating, she says she isn't, I have no clue. Anyway, that isn't the problem here.... This morning she finds that her Yahoo email account password doesn't work, and the recovery email address isn't working. No, she hadn't set up two-factor auth. :-( She called him, and he admitted taking it over (to "find out who she'd been sleeping with"). He refuses to give it back. It is the main account she uses for everything; banking, online shopping, paypal, ebay, contract work (she's still working!) etc. Yahoo are not yet being helpful.
My suggestion was, if she can't bear to lose the account and have the nightmare of moving everything to a new account, then she should report it to the local police station and tell them to log it under the Computer Misuse Act. At the very least a crime report number might get Yahoo interested, and if they pay him a visit, he may relent (or go nuts, who can tell?).

    But better ideas much appreciated!

    Bob.

I would try the forgotten password link on Yahoo and there may be an option for an account hijack. As she can prove her recent password they may be able to help although with free email accounts it is always a bit slow/laborious to get through these things.

i think the only option is the police and you would be right for being covered by the computer misuse act. He can be prosecuted for changing the passwords for an account that was not his.

If she is cheating, imagine how the bloke feels. If she's that far gone then some bloke, while tomming her, has probably spunked on his unborn baby's face. That's child abuse, surely? And she has aided and abetted it, so going to the filth could be a massive own goal and she could end up giving birth in Pentonville.

Computer misuse act for sure, plus if he has used this info to either access her bank account or misrepresented her to anyone at all it is Fraud, all fully traceable to him.

No come back on her if shes been shagging someone, there's no law against shagging.....I hope

Her ex or soon to be ex on the other hand is basically fucked, law are making examples for this shit and revenge pr0n so he's be cleaning bins or recycling for a while lol

The only point there is it will make the divorce discussions a bit easier for the soon to be ex husband.

I suspect the moment he gets a call from plod explaining it's against the law he'll return the account to her straight away.

You could always claim that he told her he will use the account for sending slutty pics of her to her colleagues, that might help it along as it would fall under revenge porn
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

If he is using the email account to control her access to money, then his behaviour probably constitutes an act of domestic violence - the definition of domestic violence covers much more than physical and verbal abuse.
