Default Playing MKV's on a chromecast

I bought my kids a chromecast the other day so they can stream movies from my NAS to watch in their bedrooms. Only trouble is, I can't get them to play. 99% of the MKV's are either AC3 or DTS. Would this matter? They're using their android tablets to navigate and can get Youtube working OK. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Try this https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...okfelagl?hl=en says it has support for MKVs etc.

Chromecast doesnt support DTS. I had same issue and ended up getting rid. Not sure about AC3 though.

I also found although the chromecast supports .mkv on paper I had loads of grief down to either resolution, compression etc with loads of files. Spent an extra tenner getting a different android box and no more problems.

Get a Raspberry PI 3 and install Kodi. In all honesty better than pretty much anything out there.

DTS files can be converted when audio is not supported here: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/sh....php?tid=20887

    Do you have Plex pass?

I assume your plex is transcoding everything to a chrome friendly format on the fly.

I was just thinking that. I've only got a crappy d'link NAS so transcoding is out. It streams fine to my T.V because my it will play everything natively.

Yeah, all the stuff is on my main PC and that does the transcoding. So if that's gonna be a problem for you, then maybe it's not the way to go.

I don't have Plex Pass, never seen the need.
