Advice Best place for Cat 6?

I need a fair bit of CAT 6 cable to do a new house with. I want to do all bedrooms, ne of which will house the master socket and a switch and needs to feed downstairs to another switch to feed four rooms down there. Am looking for decent prices on a 305m roll and good places to deal with. Could do with sockets as well, got a punchdown already.

Save money and get cat5-e you wont be running anything that requires more than gigabit connections and cat5-e is much cheaper

    Thanks to consoles

I agree with consoles, seriously i get round to a lot of data centres and large corporate comms rooms and the only time i see cat6 is on the data racks even then its only used over a couple of meters that said i would recommend excel cable https://www.comms-express.com/catego...el-cat6-cable/

Thanks for that but what sort of DCs are you working in? Last one I had anything to do with the architecture of was full 10Gb and that was five years back. Anything else wouldn't have met the requirement for database performance on RAC.

Can not say but I don't have anything to do with the DC core but everything is still 10gb or multiple aggregated links, my point was this is the only place I really see cat6 used properly

A few years back I would have been looking at cabling but these days Wifi just keeps getting better. Unless you have a very specific application for cabling I can't really see the point. Obviously data centres and corporate environments will benefit as IT departments will be targetted on up times and throughput speeds. When you have 20,000 users using servers in a datacentre you will need the extra bandwidth but for home use? I'd save the money and get very good 5ghz wifi kit like this : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B019HH3H...-2127459355-21

It looks like something out of Battlestar Galactica but look at the specs :

    • Broadcom NitroQAMTM technology boosts two 5 GHz data rates up to 4334 Mbps and 2.4 GHz up to 1000 Mbps

And you can be comfortable knowing that there's no ripping up of flooboards etc..
