Helicopter tour of Manhatten.
Empire State building.
Pangaea (bar/club) - in top 5 bars in the world in a list in the sun - amazing place.
Any sport (hockey season ends around then so may be tricky)
We were in New York in May and stayed in the Waldorf Astoria (overrated) - not sure what price range you're looking at but the hotel opposite looked pretty cool (http://www.1stnewyorkhotels.com/hotels/W.htm), also had an amazing whisky bar on the ground floor.
Another great place (go there for the bar even if you don't stay there) is the Marriot Marquis Times Square with it's revolving restaurant and bar "The View".
Didn't get to see too much of New York as I was there on business (supposedly). The Yankees weren't in town whilst we were there but we got to see the Mets.
Don't bother with the WTC site, there's nothing to see other than a building site these days.
My best memory of being there was waking up hungover one morning and just getting out and walking round manhatten, it's great.
Good website for bars http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/NewYork/

If you've never been to NY before, You HAVE to do a tour on a open top bus they are called the APPLE TOURS, they also include a trip in an car/boat which takes u round NY then onto the water...its amazing. We stayed in a Hotel called the " CourtYard Mariot" It was VERY posh, but expenseive I think it was about 2k a night, but well worth it!

Staying in the Waldorf Astoria in February, got a 1 bedroom suite for 2 people (2 doubles) for 4 days for about £800, or £100 pppn. Go to their website, go to special offers and choose "Net Direct Rates", it pays to book it in dollars with the exchange rate so good at the moment.
agree with ghettomoose, do an open top bus tour when you first get there, theres four: uptown, downtown, brooklyn and nighttime. if you do that then you can check out the bits that interest you later. also, you might want to go up the empire state building, if thats the case then id suggest going later in the evening. it shuts at 12:30 (if i remember right) and the city looks pretty good with all the lights at that time. if you begin to queue about 10:30-11 you should get up before it shuts but check first.
when i went i stayed in a place called the edison on west 47th street, first room was small and crap but the door was messed so we got moved to another. second room was really nice so i dont know whether to recommend it or not but its http://www.edisonhotelnyc.com/ anyway.
i can recommend http://www.all-hotels.com/xbook/serv...hotl_id=246390 service and quality are both superb
dont forget to take one of the staton island ferries for a great view of the manhattan skyline, of course a trip to the statue of liberty is worth the effort (but a lot of steps), times square is a must but be aware its been "cleaned up" so not the place to go for smut any more.
head for bleeker street for a good selection of resteraunts with food from around the globe especialy surya (indian) burritoville (mexican) and vittorio (italian) (you may need to book) all 3 are within spitting distance of each other.
You can't go up it any more mate, not since 9/11!!of course a trip to the statue of liberty is worth the effort
We saw the knicks when we were there (basketball) and that was a really fun evening!!
bah, trust those bloody terrorists to **** up something else, pity instead of ****ing up our holidays we dont just **** them up.Originally Posted by WTD

When I went I stayed at the YMCA on west 63rd st, very cheap, colour tv, gym the lot.
Me Too Dopey Dan been there a few times..YMCA Vanderbilt room with TV etc..although shared showers..but cheap if your looking to spend most of the time out and about its not too bad..http://www.1st-new-york-hotels.com/hotel_det.php/3/
Small electrical items are cheap in NY and loads of shops for them..If you looking to get something like a speed trap detector they about half the price they are here (just make sure it does european frequencies)
