I had Windows 98 on my Pc, I put a new hard disk into the Pc and made it the master and the old disk with windows 98 the slave.
I then installed windows 2000 on the PC, on the install, I told windows to leave the disk format as is (Not NTFS).

Everything went well except that the original hard disk with windows on it seems to have no files on it, The properties show it as 0 bytes. I did not do any backups, as I did not think the windows install would affect or touch the data on the slave drive (old Disk).

If I try and access the old disk now it gives me a message do I want to format.

Have I really lost the data or do I need to do something with windows 2000 to recognise the data on the old disk.

I will try switching the cables on the drives tonight and make the old disk the master again and see if it boots up 98.
