how do i enter a keycode?(blaupunkt)

i purchased a car radio code generator off a seller on ebay--using the serial and part number to enter the code and generate it, i'm almost sure i've done that bit ok but don't know if i'm entering it right--the radio is a blaupunkt rds out of a renault--i'm using 1, 2, 3, 4 off the front of the unit and pressing 6 to enter it--is this right? the radio doesn't seem to unlock--now i'm not asking for codes but advice on how to enter the code i have!
