I've driven a couple of these now (unfortunately) tbh mate they are shit, totally unenjoyable driving experience to fuck with saving the planet but if you are after loads of mpg then . . . I still wouldn't get one.
Don't buy one if you live in the sticks, I have a customer who has one and loves it but had a problem hitting a deer and smashing the front in as the deer couldn't hear the car coming
I don't know of any problems they have mechanically tbh but this doesn't mean they don't have any, these are a specialist job to work on engine wise and one that a lot of garages are scared of so be prepared to pay the main dealers should anything go faulty.
Have a look on honest johns m8

Thanks Urbsy. That's useful info because I have no intention of getting scammed at the dealership for servicing etc.

Heh, well the prius in my opinion is marketed as an ethical choice of car but it's far from it. If you want to feel good about driving then buy any other car & pipe laughing gas through the vents I know you said you're not bothered about saving the planet but there's really no reason to buy one other than kidding people that you're green. Stick with the nissan

I've a new 1.4tdci fiesta that costs 35 sobs a year to tax and does 60mpg, her indoors has one same but I've chipped hers, the mpg has dropped but I can't fault the difference in performance. It's not fast by a long chalk but quite fun chucking the little beast about with the extra nippyness.
No good as too small for you but for tight yorkshire bastards you can't beat these

At 20mpg and £400 for road tax I'm just being fucking hammered now mate. Also taking in to account the price of fuel now it's just not funny any more.
I'm a big guy mate and I drive regularly down to london. It's not the motor I want to be stuck in for the 8 hour drive. Plus the prius is a lot bigger than the polo by a long way.
Yeah well my ex was from Yorkshire so i know what you mean

Take this at least semi seriously. Have a look at the MG-ZT diesel, or the Rover 75 version. You will get a lot of car for the money & they are really well made. The engine is a BMW one. You can get a box to increase the power if you're so inclined. If you start with the 115bhp one you can go straight to 155bhp. The 135 version goes to 155bhp with the same box of tricks if memory serves (google for rover ron synergy). You can get them with tv & sat-nav which works with tmc traffic updates. If you get one made pre march 2001 (maybe a bit old for you) the tax will be reasonable. You will also get >50mpg if you want to.
I've got a V6 Rover 75 and yes it's a bit old manny from the outside but I think the styling is great, a car designed to be a bit retro doesn't age too much. The engine sounds great, although it's no racer more of a cruiser. Really like it.

There is no way I would be seen dead even as a passenger in a toyota pious.
As said before, there is no way they are eco friendly due to the nasty chemicals and energy required in processing the batteries. The only reason for a pious is eco friendliness so I have just proved the car is pointless.
Oh yes, you mentioned economy - is leccy free round your ends cos we have to pay for it down here? Don't think I've ever seen a full cost benefit analysis for one of these that is neutral and hasn't hideously forgotten about or amended facts one way or the order in order to prove a point.

I wasn't on about the bhp for that reason more for easy driving. If you read up on the synergy site people say it makes their cars more useable, less gear changes etc. Sounds like you would be best off with a diesel estate, unless it's a large seat you want
