But the coms are done at a different baud rate
im told they do a basic reader that just comes up with a code and you can then cross reference it to a data sheet. Not sure how complex it has to be.

My m8 has a "Fault Finder" For the Citroen and Pug range, WHich he got from Halfords. Simply plug into the diagnostic socket and flick the switch a few times - Count how the L.E.D Flashes and look the number up on the reference. Pin points the exact problem last recoreded in the ECU - Get yourself down to Halfords m8.

For Vauxhalls try my site.
All you need is a paper clip to read the fault codes off

What a brilliant site Top buzz, very informative. Do you have any information on other models of cars, especially my g/f daewoo nexia (which is a revamped astra).
Many thanks in advance

Sorry no, I only know about Vauxhall/Opel/Holden cars. If the Daewoo Nexia uses the same fuel system (ie Motronic or Simtec) then it could be the same information. Other than that you can get the ECU Haynes books, there are two of themDo you have any information on other models of cars, especially my g/f daewoo nexia (which is a revamped astra).
Engine Managament Manual 3344 (ISBN 1-85960-344-0)
Diagnostic Fault Codes Manual 3472 (ISBN 1-85960-472-2)
I brought these at Halfords.
like "Topbuzz" says, you don't need a reader, just a paperclip or a piece of wire and count the flashes.
Topbuzz:
Do these manuals tell you where to locate the diagnostic plugs on the different makes of cars or just fault codes. I cant locate the plug but ive located the ecu and its called a delco mp part no 16207499. Can i be cheeky and ask you to have a look in your manual for me.

Hmmm.........lets see (flicking through the pages).
Yep, it covers
Daewoo Nexia 1.5 8v & 16v
Daewoo Espero 1.5 16v, 1.8 8v & 2L 8v
All use GM-Multec fuel system 1995-1997 (ie common as muck system, found in Vauxhalls a lot).
It looks like the ECU and SD connector are both in the engine bay, ECU is in top left hand corner looking from the front of the car with the bonnet open, and the SD connector is sitting next to it. You have to short pins A & B. It looks identicle to Vauxhall GM-Multec system.
Ive found a block connector (and the ecu) inside the car just below the fuse box. The kick pannel has a removerable square plug that exposes a 12 pin connector that ponts straight at you. Must be it i think!!. It only has 5 wires going to it, so im still unsure as to which to join out. Do u suggest i check it for a 12v supply first?
Sorry to be a pain topbuzz

Well according to the Haynes book the test connecot and ECU is located in the drivers footwell, behind the right-hand kick panel. The test connecot has 12-pins (two rows of 6). You need to short pins A and B with a paer clip. This is shown with the plug with the clip pointing upwards. Pins A & B are on the right hand side top corner, ie

where X are the other 6 pins (do not know there lettering).

Just a quick note if any newbies are trying the paperclip method may i suggest you use a piece of wire with an inline fuse (lower amperage the better) just incase you get the wrong pins Dont want any fried ecu's now do we
lol thats what i did first time....blew a fuse but shit myself when the car didnt start till i found it
