Has anyone got any experience on this? I have a box of films here which totals just over 2000ft. Just rang a local place and they want £410 quid to convert it to dvd.
Anyone had it done before at a cheaper bloody price?
There's a guy on eBay (UK) that will do it for less than that, using a proper frame by frame scanner. A fiver per 50ft. If you don't have the frame scanner equipment you're looking at doing it by telecine - i.e filming the projection with a digital camcorder/camera in real time which would give you the digital file.

I looked in to this for my boss about 5 years ago, his dad has dozens of home movies on 8mm and wanted to save them to dvd.
if I rem right it was something like £150 per hour of footage.
Only in Britain….do we use the word “politics” to describe the process of Government. “Poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking
creatures”

this is the same guy Bod, he claims digital transfers compared to the analogue method telecine uses.

I used a Eumig 610D as it has slow frame capability. Projected onto a 5" condenser lens. Filmed of the lens with a CCTV camera with a reverse image switch(so image is now the right way round. Used Vid Cap software (no longer available but I have a copy!). A microswitch attached to the projector triggers the left mouse button to capture frames one at a time. Fairly long winded but very sharp images and no flicker.
I have a 50 year old digital movie of myself and my (future) wife frolicking on the beach. It was filmed by my grandfather!!

i have a great Emug810 but its got a fault i havent managed to fix, gate keeps bouncing, will get round to it one day.
i have been toying with the idea of getting this http://www.easy-transfert.com/product.php?id_product=21
but trying to find out haw its done to see if i could make one before i buy.
my 93 year old father, who worked in the army kinematic corp and a lifelong avid cine enthusiast, says, remove the gate coil springs and stretch them out a little .
The Easy transfer is, of course, a a video capture device it will scan an image into a digital format.
The tricky bit is getting a decent image of the film print. If you try to capture a moving image there is always flicker and a faded image.
A nprofessional telecine grabs a frame at a time- when its stationary in the gate. This results in sharp images with good colour depth.
The Cinecap standard software was so good, they stopped selling it - maybe not enough demand (LOL)
see here for the software in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Jkx-92HuhM
