I was browsing aliexpress and noticed you can get a 3d printer for around £170 or even a dual extruder version for £230 in kit form.

It's the open source one (Prusa I3) which looks a bit fragile. I have a few (lots) questions if anyone has any experience in one.

How hard are they to set up (from kit)? Do they smell of burning plastic, i.e. would I need to to put it in the shed rather than stinking out the house? Where are the best places to buy the plastic?

And more importantly what are you using it for? Does owning one enhance your life? Are there any sites I can download files I can just print?
