I still didn't like the mouth piece so made it a bit more screen accurate. I've made so many changes to it fusion 360 throws a fit when I try and split the model otherwise I'd slant the slats.
Compared to the other one:
I made it in pieces to make it easier to paint and then glue together:
New one painted and placed on the helmet for now, I can't glue it until I've sprayed.
I'm enjoying your updates so much that it's one of the 1st threads I look at when I visit here daily! Keep it up

Not much of an update but my sticky gloss paper came today. I printed the stickers and tried putting the sheet in my printer again to get a second set. Turns out I had the paper the wrong way around and went over the top of the original print (these are twice as dark as they should be). Rather than just throw them in the bin I thought I may as well mock it up
Just spraying left once I get a chance.

Got the primer done today
And one coat of white:

I'm done Finished spraying so all that was left to do was fit the mouth piece, fit some foam to the inside, put on the stickers and hot glue in the visor

I think that's your best finished helmet yet. Do you have them displayed?

Lol, that's awesome. I don't think any chap between the age of 35-45 wouldn't want to own a star wars helmet. I'm a closet cosplay wannabe who would love to do a parade in a full storm trooper outfit. It's the equivalent of a futuristic knight in my eyes.
I don't have the time currently to even think about doing this myself. In a few years time maybe.... And when that time arrives I'll have to pick your brains on what's what! Can't wait to see what you do next! Hopefully the lack of space on that shelf doesn't mean it's the end!
Bald Bouncer (23rd October 2017), dainese (23rd October 2017)
I actually do need a shelf there. I have plenty of room on that wall for more shelves.
I've still got the death trooper to finish and then not sure what to start next. I have four Imperial helmets now so really should do a Rebel helmet, but the only rebel helmets I can find are a x wing pilot and the Endor skull cap. I've always liked the Imperial Guard and once the helmet is done it's quite an easy cosplay as it's just a red robe and a stick. There is this model which is free or a better looking model (more accurate forehead) which is $13 if I buy it before Halloween. And of course there is the Darth Vader which I posted somewhere in this thread. Not sure which one I want to start yet.
My latest build is a Shore Trooper and is all printed, sanded and ready for gluing. The model is 501st approved and prints fantastically. It has registration marks on all the bits so pretty much just clips together. I had to chop and glue a few bits that were larger than my bed which I'll be uploading to thingiverse so others don't have the same bother.
I have some Montanas Gold - Sahara beige paint on order although not sure when I'll get it painted due to the cold weather.
If anyone wants to do their own I highly recommend this as a first helmet build, I wish I'd seen this model before I did the others as it would have given me some tips on lining things up with registration marks.
The dome put together:

Edit I've uploaded my chopped files to thingiverse:

Managed to get the dome epoxied and primed today along with the blast shield. The lower ring and cheeks are all epoxied together and ready for priming. The primer is going to be a nice base coat as the Sahara beige isn't far off from it.
And a quick mock up of the helmet.

These are looking great
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.
Quick update, 1st layer of primer done on all bits. Still a few more layers to go and lots of sanding to do.
Spoiler:
The obligatory mock up, press fitted for now.
Edit: another image with the mouth piece and blast shield. The mouth piece isn't flush as if I push it in I'll never get it out.

I was asking for tips on another forum on how to paint this. Someone came up with this thread:
https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/top...page-6/?page=6
I thought it looked ok before, holy shit the guy has gone to town on it.
Looking through that thread, there is a lots of different layers to get the look and texture of the screen prop. I'll be popping down to halfords tomorrow to buy the sprays but this might drag out until the spring as I can't get much spraying done with this shitty weather. I'll try and grab a big box where I can spray indoors (with my windows open of course).

Yay it's not pissing down today meaning I can get some spraying done.
I've come to the conclusion either I am shit at masking or the masking tape I'm using is shit. I've just bought some humbrol maskol on ebay to help. Doesn't really matter as all the black will be masked off anyway before the rest gets the texture and final colour. If maskol doesn't work I'll be spending a lot of time with a small paintbrush to touch it up.
It doesn't really matter about the blast shield as that will be weathered in those bits where the mask leaked anyway.
This bit it does fucking matter
All this for something you'll probably never notice unless you look from underneath.
I glued the face, cheeks and top eye surround in place. I felt it's probably better to get an even coat rather than spray them separately. I loosely placed the bottom eye surround and mouth piece.
I went shopping yesterday for the next stage in painting. But won't be doing anything until the maskol comes.
Full mock up with everything balanced, the blast shield sits higher normally. The top section still isn't glued but plan on doing that today. :
Edit:
Top section glued on , I still need to epoxy. You can see all the registration marks making this helmet a breeze to assemble:
The primer colour vs the sahara beige

Day off today and it's not pissing down so I managed to get some spraying done. Apologies for the shitty photos.
I sprayed the cast iron on the bits the other night to give the helmet a texture:
And with the hammered brown to finish off the look today:
Now I'm at a crossroads. The paint tutorial says to spray the whole thing matt black, then a matt brown and finally a clear coat before the final beige colour. I kind of feel that may be a waste of time as it's already is brown with a slight shine. A matt brown with a clear coat would pretty much be the same colour. The matt brown the guy uses in the tutorial is only available for air brushing and I don't have an air brush, I may just skip this step.

More spraying today. This is the final colour but I could only get one coat done due to lack of light.
The lighting in this room doesn't really show the colour well.
The sahara beige goes on really thick so the texture looks less defined than it was.
The maskol worked well, keeping the textured paint off these bits (and the bits on the ears and around the back of the helmet)
I now need some 20x3mm self tapping screw to attach the helmet. Sods law I could only find one that size in the shed. I've only got spray can matt black so will probably spray into a small container and use a paintbrush for the detailing. After that it's on to weathering which will be a new experience. Fingers crossed I don't fuck that up after all this hard work.
