Help Need Getting Sony VAIO FW11ZU Work With XP

Ok guys. Anyone know how get Sony Vaio FW11ZU laptop work with XP. Im using PCDJ VJ software and need to get the laptop to Dual boot XP and Vista.

I used Vista's Shrink Disk option to create a 20gig partition but when I try to install XP I get a BSOD with error 0x0000007b Inaccessable_Boot_Device

I've looked all over the net and can't seem to find any XP drivers for the machine. The closest I could find was for FW11E. I'm assuming that this as the same SATA drivers (but can't be sure).

I made a slipstream of the drivers and XPSP2 but once the drivers have loaded I still get the BSOD as soon as the setup says loading windows.

I'm now guessing I need the storage controller drivers but thats only assuming that the SATA drivers are correct!?????

Any help would be appreciated.

Stick these drivers on a floppy and press f6 when xp first boots or integrate them as text-mode drivers with n-lite.

I use these drivers for Dell 755 machines at work which have the same chipset.

Yeah these are the drivers im already using. I made a slipstream of windows xp so that these drivers are already on the xp disk. I do see some of these drivers load at the bottom of the screen when windows setup starts but I still get the BSOD.

I havent yet tried putting them on a floppy as I dont have a usb floppy drive, but im guessing this will only have the same result as slipstreaming the drivers with the XP disk.

Will try to get a usb floppy to try this.

Are you integrating them as text-mode drivers? Integrating them as regular pnp drivers won't work. I'm guessing you are if you're editing the inf files directly. I normally use nLite to do it for me though.

Also make sure that in your BIOS you have ACHI enabled... Having this set to RAID in BIOS caused this 0x7B error on our Dells too...

ps. sticking them on floppy just lets you load them at boot same as integrating them. Only if you have the incorrect drivers it will complain that it can't find any drivers on the disk...

Yeah I stuck them in the TEXTMODE folder. I actual stuck them in both the TEXTMODE and in the I386/$OEM$/$1/Drivers folder. I cant switch on ACHI in the bios as this VAIO Laptop is limited to what u can actually do when ur in there. It only really allows you to set the password and time. Im hoping its already on as Vista loads ok.

Not by the laptop. Just setting off home now so ill give n-lite a go soon as I get in just to make sure I didnt do anything wrong. Any other ideas. Do you know if the controller could be the issue as I get nothing at all when I try to look it up?

Ok im just giving N-lite a go. It said my installation grew by 0.59m so maybe there was a file or something missing. will soon find out. Gonna take a while now to try installation so will let u know if this worked 2moro.

Ok that work. I'd already got the correct drivers and when i tried n-lite it work. I now have XP fully installed. Loads of devices missing drivers but XP installed.

Must have edited the inf file wrong somewhere.

When you use the TEXTMODE folder you need to edit the winnt.sif file to add [MassStorageDrivers] and an [OEMBootFiles] sections that identify your drivers. I also think you need to delete the unattend.txt file if I remember rightly. It's all a bit of a pain, hence the reason I use nLite.

Ok got the Realtek Sound Working
Also got the HDMI Audio Installed

Having problems finding the following drivers, any ideas:

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
SM Bus
Base System Device

Any Ideas where I can compatible drivers would be great
ATI apparently have some agreement with Laptop vendors to not release the mobility drivers on their website.

Ok I got all the devices installed appart from the Base System Device.
Not even sure what this is. It could be blue tooth or memory card reader or something.
I know im meant to have blue tooth but it aint installed.
I think the magic gate card reader is fully working as ive got 1 extra drive in my computer.

1 more problem to solve other than the above, and the most important.
When I use PCDJ VJ for playing videos, when i try to play or mix 2 video the right hand side video becomes corrupt.
This only happens when using hardware acceleration. Im assuming this is something to do with the current installed graphics driver.

Does anyone know of an up-to-date graphics drive that is fully compatible with XP and doesnt have this issue:
i.e. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 XP Driver

You can get the ATI Mobility HD 3650 from the Dell website:

Shouldn't have any problems installing it but if you do you should be able to extract the driver and install it manually from the .exe you download.

also try downloading the xp drivers for the smbus (probably a card reader of some sort) from the sony website.

i'm not sure what the 'base system device' would be. best idea would be to download all the xp drivers and extract the .inf files. then find the hardwareid of the device and match it to one of the infs. then download the vista version of that driver...

SM Bus is the System Management Bus, installing the correct chipset drivers for the motherboard will get that working as it should.

Ok cheers guys.

I've sorted the SM Bus driver. I've done a load of updates and xp has recognised my Blue tooth device.
Need to get this installed now.
Everything else is also installed except this Base System Device. Still dont have a clue what it is but I will have a go at ellimination as u mentioned above.

The ATI driver i have is 8.491 catalyst so I will try to update to the dell one. sure if it wont install i can put the necessary infs from the file and then incorpate it into my existing video setup.

I've just downgraded a Vaio to XP and the Base System Device is the Memory Stick, just install the memory stick driver from one of the older models, i used the US site and the driver from the SR190 and that worked fine on a brand new machine
