    Help Good all-in-one internet security?

    Hi all,

My brothers pc is fooked (again) and he wants me to go round and sort it out for them. The problem is it happens every few weeks because his kids go to all sorts of shite sites and download flash games, vids, mp3s, and allsorts. It ends up with more viruses than a vietnamese pr0stitute.

Once I sort it for them this time, I want to put on something that will hopefully stop the majority of these things from happening, something that will stop most spyware and viruses from sitting on the pc, something i can arrange to run weekly scans without them needing to do anything (coz they don't when i ask em to) but also one that doesn't use too much memory and resources whilst its just monitoring (as their pc isn't exactly top spec)

So, the long and short of it is, can you guys recommend me an all-in-one app, that can be scheduled to automatically run scans on a weekly basis, that doesn't eat a lot of power?

    Thanks in advance,
    Russbeer

I have AVG and spybot on mine - both free downloads mate. You can configure them to automatically update their definitions and undertake scans at predetermined times.
AVG and Spybot (and i suspect most others will as well) will scan rar/zip files before extraction, which is a MUST.
Finally, Spybot also runs on mine in the background and monitors every process/action i take.
Occasionally I run Ad Aware and touch wood, I haven't had a problem to date.

That's exactly why my lad has his own PC. He knows full well he's not allowed on mine

Last week I caught him downloading a "trainer" for one of the flash games he plays. Turned out it was an old trainer packaged with a new trainer in a rar file, the new trainer was a trojan. I've tried warning him in the past not to download things as he doesn't know what they are but it never works.

Karlos has hit the nail on the head there!

Add Comodo Firewall to it and your all set!

you might want to also think about setting opendns as your dns server, you can set it to block certain categories of sites where virus's are more likely to come from

I'm personally not impressed with avg. Had my pc running for around 2 years with no antivirus at all. Was getting slower but no blatant signs of infection. Did a fresh format couple of weeks ago and put avg on it. Had pop ups left right and centre within 4 days!

Rap, out of interest what are you basing this on as most independent tests I have seen seem to put Avira Antivir and Avast above NOD32 for detection rates, NOD32 seems to do better in the fact that it uses less system resources than the other two.

    Cheers

    Personal opinion ;-)

I don't see the point in antivirus or antispyware to be honest. They're the condoms of the pc software world. If you're gonna screw skanky whore's then you need to use protection or you'll get a virus. But if you don't screw skanky whore's then you ain't gonna need em in the first place...
