    Serious F*cked my back

    So I was training back last night, warmed up with 4 setsof pull downs then went into dead lift.

    Warm up set, 20kgs - 10 reps.
    2nd set, 40kgs - 10 reps
    3rd set, 60kgs - 10 reps
    (I strapped up at this point)
    4th set 80kgs - 10 reps
    5th set -100kgs - 10 reps

    So by this point I am well warmed up, lifting well and keeiping good form. Here's where it went wrong.

    6th set, 120kgs (so 3 plates a side), 1st rep, not particularly good form, 2nd rep, I found my form and although heavy wasn't really struggling to move the weight. 3rd rep pretty much the same as the 2nd, 4th rep, I got the bar up then at the top of the movement something in my lower left back "popped" loudly around the lower dorsal/erectus spinae area.

    I dropped the bar and staggered forward with an agonising pain in my back which totally took my breath away. I've been in complete agony since and although some heavy pain killers seemed to have allowed me to move about a bit, I think I've fucked it quite badly. I'm shitting myself that it's disc related, although it feels more to the side of the spine than inline with it.

    I'm waiting for the chiropractor to ring me back (7.45am now) and hopefully they will be able to see me this morning.

    I'll let you know what the outcome is.

    NOTE: Wear a belt when lifting heavy, I didn't and I may now have to pay the price, I hope not but we will see.

    Yeah cheers mate, I can't get an appointment until 1430hrs so will have to mope around all morning, being unreasonable and irritable and swearing like a docker.

    That is bad news mate. Hope it fixes sharpish.

    On another related note my mate at work was squatting 430lb in a power cage and he heard his arse tear, said it was like a ripping noise, and it fucked him badly. Missed a comp and everything. He also told me it was a gay weight for him as well.

    Try syndol a headache tablet and muscle relaxant helps me when my backs in agony usually behind the counter in my local asda, do make you very drowsy though.

    I'm in the exact same boat as you RR. I've got a re-occurring back injury which I believe is muscular and is just coming back whenever I put weight on it. I guess you won't want to hear the following but the pain is exactly where it has me, but it switches sides quite a lot from my left to right then right to left, I don't believe the pain usually lies in the middle. The reason this is because when theres strain on one side the nerves push it to the other as a reaction ( so I was told by my chiro).

    I've been to visit the docs, they didnt do a fscking thing. I went to a chiro and spent a fortune which seemed to have helped it for a bit and now its came back again with a vengance - the day before last I keeled over in absoloute agony. I'm gonna have to book the docs again n see what they say this time and I'm not going to take a no for an answer this time to have this further looked into as it happened back before march.

    I am really gutted that I've had no support from my doctor regarding this as he says you gotta just let it play its course, but am sure someone who speciliases in this area could have atleast had a look into it.

    This is just a heads up mate and hopefully your injury isn't as bad as mine has been as I'm really gutted that whenever I want to get back into any sort of training something happens. I dont think it'll be a lifetime problem for myself but at the moment it really is de-motivating knowing that you want to but can't.

    Just got back. The good news is that it is just a minor problem with two joints in my back and there is no signs of any disc damage at all. All reflexes are fine. Muscles round the two joints are like rocks, by that I mean in spasm. It going to hurt and be sore for the next 4 to 5 days and Ineed to go back between 6 and 8 times to treat it completely.

    I fell down some stairs a few weeks ago and hurt my back in the same area so he thinks that could have caused a weakness in that spot. He didn't feel that I was in the wrong for lifting that weight as there was a steady build up to it with no problem. He's told me to keep moving in terms of pottering about, as opposed to lying or sitting for long periods of time. Moving about will (for this type of injury) will convince the body that nothing is wrong and the muscles should free up. Going take some painkillers and ice it for 20 mins 3 or 4 times a day. I also have an ultrasound machine which he said would help but I gotta get Mrs Roach to do it for me

    Still fucking pissed off about the whole thing but thank you all for your well wishes.

    Right now though I'd struggle to dead lift a cotton bud.
