Recommend me a Mountain Bike
It's time I got back on a bike and have around £500 to spend.
My wish list is a 27.5 or 29er, hydraulic brakes and a lockout on the forks. Remote lockout would be nice but think that's probably pushing the budget a bit.
With that in mind I've found a Cannondale Trail 6 29er at Evans cycles for £500 but thought I'd see what the good people of DF recommend.
Here is the Cannondale
Or a bit cheaper is this Trek.
Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
What about a Kona Mahuna 29er 2013 for £419. Blue or Orange.
You may be able to find a voucher for there to get it down a bit more.

Can't help recommending a bike, but can recommend a shop - Drake's Cycles in Leeds.

Same advertised price, but offer of 15% worth of free goodies (or you might get a 10% discount if you ask).
I bought a Cannondale Quick CX2 from them last weekend :) - I had a 220 mile round trip to get it, but I wanted to see the bike I was thinking of and to be able to compare to a couple of other choices I had in mind and to check out the size frame I needed. I phoned them up before I left here & they were just about finished putting them together by the time I arrived & were very helpful.
Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
If it were me in would go 650b and probably will if still working for my current employer come scheme time. Can't offer any advice but personally am looking at the OnOne 456 650b version.
Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
I've never ridden a 650b bike so don't know what to expect. I've had a go on a few 29ers and liked the ride. It just seems the 650b bikes are what people are buying lately, maybe there's a reason. Out of interest why would you go for a 650b and not a 29er? I like the look of that kona, especially the price :)

Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
I have just purchased a mountain bike. Haven't had a bike in about ten years. After a huge amount of research and a few visits to different bike shops I decided on this one http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/prod...rail-29er-4-14
I am really pleased with it. I love the weight.. Its so light you can really throw it around. The 29" wheels mean you can hit some pretty rough stuff and still not feel it and it has a front forks lock out on the handle bars which is great for when I come out of the woods/bridal paths onto the road. The gear changes a smooth as feck and this is the first time ive had a bike with disk brakes and theyre amazing! couldnt be happier tbh.. I will say though that I know nothing about mountain bikes, I only know what I have read online.

I have tried a full travel 29er and found the wheels to be too big but I am only 5' 9". A lot of manufacturers have dropped 26" bikes now and I want to give the 27.5 a try as it is not much of a jump from 26 to there.
Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
Yeh iv got a specialised 29ervand the wheels are too big , and I'm 6.2
Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
Quick update
I ordered the Kona that lagigolo linked to. I didn't really want to spend too much Had to go for the orange as the blue looked too boring. :)
I got it today and have given it a quick 5 mile ride on pretty flat terrain. It seems effortless to pedal. My only complaint is the seat, it's like a razor blade and not much padding so I'm a bit sore.
I'm taking it to Swinley forest on Sunday to give it a good going over.
Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
I would have had the orange too, glad you like it.
Invest in some padded shorts, they help. Also if you haven't rode for a while its gonna hurt a bit on most seats.

Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
I just purchased one of these.
Lombardo Erice 300 21-speed Mountain bike.
Full Suspension Aluminium frame with Integrated headset. Front forks with 60 mm travel. 21-speed Shimano gears with ST-EF65 Shifters. Lombardo Mechanical Disc Brakes front and rear. Lombardo Wheelset with alloy profiled rims. Frame size 17.5 inch. Inside leg measurement 28-33 inch.
Cost me £260.00
Don't know what they are like but soon find out.
Re: Recommend me a Mountain Bike
60mm travel is not a lot, just over 2 inches so don't do no big jumps. But if it gets you riding then all good.
