Mobile broadcast - Cyanogen 11
Anyone else got Cyanogen 11 installed and getting mobile broadcasts?
Getting sick to the back teeth of receiving the alerts now which seems to happen at any time whether I'm moving or sat at my desk - happens any amount of time between 20 and 40 times a day and it's driving me fucking nuts.
For anyone not sure what they are, they appear to be cell broadcasts that can be used to send messages/alerts and in my case, the dialing code of the area I'm in.
I've Googled. but not getting (m)any UK hits and any fixes don't fix - I have them disabled in the settings.
I'm happy with this ROM and don't really want to have to flash another in.
Just me?
Re: Mobile broadcast - Cyanogen 11
Erm. Might have just sorted this actually, and I'm sure I'd already done this. Must have been a dream.
For anyone Googling, install Root Explorer, search for anything called android.com.cellbroadcastreceiver and either rename it or delete it (I renamed it in case it broke something).
Seems to have stopped for now, though stopping and disabling the cellbroadcastreceiver.apk didn't initially work even after renaming it, but I guess it could still have had something going on in the RAM.
Re: Mobile broadcast - Cyanogen 11
Nope - not worked. I'm now bombarded with "Unfortunately Cell Broadcast has stopped" pop-ups.
A reboot and all the files are replaced with the original file names so back to square one..
Re: Mobile broadcast - Cyanogen 11
Dont use it myself but read this reply on cyanogenmod's g+ page in response to someone else who keeps getting constant alerts..
I hate them mobile broadcasts with a passion, they go off every time your phone switches anttena in the UK. I stopped them by going into your regular SMS app , goto one of the mobile broadcasts, open it. Click menu. (3lines) goto settings. And from in there should be all manner of options. Basically you wanna make sure none of them have ticks in..
Hope that helps.
Re: Mobile broadcast - Cyanogen 11
Thanks.
Interesting - I don't get it as an SMS, just an on screen pop-up with no options but to close.. Hmm.
:edit: found them from a sub-menu. What you've said there takes me to the phones settings menu where everything is unticked.
Damn - got my hopes up there.

Got and tried this from the GiffGaff forums. Won't know until tomorrow if it works as it doesn't usually happen at home.

I've never had this problem with other networks but on comming to gg I noticed that I was getting LOTS of cell broadcast messages anytime I moved to another cell or even lost connection briefly - understandably this is most irritating !
*
There seems to be some issue with CM Nightlies as even disabling Cell Broadcasts in the broadcasts settings did not solve the issue
*
another fix is to run from a terminal
su pm disable com.android.cellbroadcasterreceiver
*However I found that even this failed after a reboot (odd!)
*
in the end I did the following
su mount -rw -o remount /system cd /system/app mv CellBroadcastReceiver.apk CellBroadcastReceiver.apk.disabled reboot
*this is basically what apps like titanium will do for you...
*
however if you flash a new nightly you'll have to do this process again - I understand that with the paid for version of titanium you can "freeze"* CellBroadcastReceiver.apk which will stick even after a re flash...
Re: Mobile broadcast - Cyanogen 11
I'm running CM11 on my HTC One and have never seen a single one of the messages you are talking about.
perhaps there was a bug cropped up when you flashed the image? either that or malware on your device would be my best guess.
I know it's a pain but I think re-flashing is the best course of action to take.
Re: Mobile broadcast - Cyanogen 11
I haven't flashed manually per se. Used their installer.
It's done this since day one so there's no malware.
Above trick has sorted it in any case, but I was close to reflashing.
