Re: pc stopped playing sound
What's your operating system...xp, win 7 etc & do you have more than one sound card/device installed? For instance, I have a Auzen X-fi, Realtek HD audio (mobo on-board sound) & ATI HD Audio (graphics card - HDMI) installed & listed in the Device Manager. Have you checked to see if the O/S has set one of the other sound devices as default?
Re: pc stopped playing sound
It's vista and I only have the one sound card.
What's puzzled me it happen while listening to music. Nobody was near the pc just had ot running while she was cleaning up.
Re: pc stopped playing sound
Is everything reported OK in device manager?
Does "Sound" in device manager report it is installed and functioning correctly?
Re: pc stopped playing sound
yeah everything is reported as fine.
Re: pc stopped playing sound
check your default playback device..
..easiest guide is following the answer to question 3 here (use as visual gide - obviously not hardware specific)--> http://panasonic.net/avc/projector/d...aq_wm55_2.html
Re: pc stopped playing sound
yeah thats fine was one of the first things i checked. If i take the jack out then it changes from speakers to spdif, which is not what i have connected. put it back in and back to speakers.
Re: pc stopped playing sound
What parts do you have: motherboard, sound card & graphics. Is it a PCI slot sound card? Does the sound card have its own software for testing the device or for that matter have you ran vista's sound test - playback devices/speakers or headphones which ever you've got plugged in/properties/advanced. Have you checked for any possible conflicts or tried the card in another slot? If connected, have you tried the front sound port on your PC? Tried disabling SPDIF?
Re: pc stopped playing sound
onboard sound, Ive ran vista sound test it just says sounds coming out. Tried the front but that doesnt work.
just disabled spdif but sill not working. No conflicts are showing in the device manager.
Re: pc stopped playing sound
It might be worth getting the latest driver update for your sound card - from the mobo manufacturer's site or the manufacturer of the sound chip - probably Realtek.
Re: pc stopped playing sound
I've had this before with RealtekHD Audio, drivers install and function correctly but no sound comes out....took an bit of searching and trying various drivers before one of them seemed to match the exact chipset just by trial and error.
Try getting ther HD drivers direct from the chipset manufacturer rather than the motherboard manufacturer.
ie. Get the RealtekHD Audio from Realtek site, rather than ie. Asus website
(Assuming it is RealtekHD Audio of course) and grab a few different driver revisions.
This (for me) was on XP too, so maybe it's Win7 is also the same.
Re: pc stopped playing sound
Not had chance to sort the drivers out yet gonna try In a bit.
Re: pc stopped playing sound
well my sound card is IDT 92HD73E HD Audio Codec. tried a couple of installs now and dont seem to be getting anywhere.
bit more info
Pc is a advent QC6003
Any one know the drivers i need?
Re: pc stopped playing sound
Quick google found this thread, not the exact same issue but might be worth following the suggestions, BIOS update and all Intel driver updates?
Will try and dig into it more after tea mate :cool2:
Re: pc stopped playing sound
could be aplifier on mobo. common problem on onboard sound chips these days
try a system restore to a date when it was working.
Re: pc stopped playing sound
updated the bios yet still no sound. installed yet more drivers from that link and elsewhere and no sound.
gonna try the repair disk.
Restore to eairler point was one of the first things i did. Didnt work :(
