Speed camera alert help...tomtom one

Hi all
I wonder if anyone can answer this. I have a one IQ routes Tomtom and am taking it to Malta soon where it is illegal to have a speed camera alert device. Is it sufficient to disable the feature or is it the case that due to the illegality the device does not give alerts in countries where it is not permitted anyway?
