Windows XP Service Pack 3
Can anyone recommend somewhere safe to download Windows XP Service Pack 3 from, please?
I know it’s a bit ancient, but I found an old laptop in the loft at the weekend that was last updated to Service Pack 2. Unfortunately that means that I can’t load Norton Internet Security on it without updating and the update is no longer available directly from Microsoft :(
Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3
100% off topic but I'd suggest looking at a lightweight Linux distro instead of XP at least that way it will be secure enough to browse the net with.

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll bare it in mind just in case I fail to update XP.
Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3
I'd check on iptorrents for an updated build. I would also advise avoiding Norton anything.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3
I came here just to post against Norton too :p I was also going to say there is standalone SP3 patch but seems like Mickey has beat me to it.
Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3
Cheers, Mickey. I'd spotted the first three when I Googled it, too. Without having used any of the three sites before, I was hoping someone might be able to confirm that they're safe before I downloaded and installed anything from them - better safe than sorry. I hadn't seen Microsoft one before, though. I'll give that one a go.

Why do you want to keep XP?

Because it’s a crappy 15 year old Dell laptop that has less computing power than my phone. It just might be able to run something current but it I imagine it would be painfully slow. XP’s fine for what little I use it for. The good news is that (thanks to Mickey’s link to the Microsoft page) Service Pack 3 is now installed and Norton’s now been re-installed too.
While we’re talking about Norton, why do people hate it so much? I’ve never had any problems with it.
Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3
Simply because it makes a slow machine fcking useless to use. Its memory intensive hogs all the resources.
then try and uninstall it lmao. you think its gone but it hasn't

XP and Norton are going to make a slow machine even slower. Stick Chrome OS or Linux on it and get some use out of it.

If it's that shit a pc, why not try Remix OS? It's android with a desktop.
Norton is bloaty, for XP go for a bent copy of NOD32.

XP and Norton would struggle on an i7 .Norton is a virus rather than anti
Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3
My suggestions:
As previously said, forget Norton. Never install this pile of cack on anything.
1: Get a newer laptop. Preferably 2nd Gen i5 or better. Can be found for approx. £150
2: If can't get a newer laptop, get a cheap small SSD and load Win7 or Win 10 on this. (often you can ditch your CD drive and put a big/slow HDD in a tray in place of the CD)
3: If can't get an SSD, still load Win7/Win10.
4: If you have no need for Windows, one of the various types of Linux should run ok on your computer
