Who do you use for car insurance?
Looking at who uses what. So far it's all quidco for me. Need to insure a second car i am chasing and also my main car thats due in oct.
Gocompare etc have been pants. I am 40, full no claims and clean record and insurance is mental !:(
Anyone know of any secret gem companies who do it better than the usual places?
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
I always use confused dot com - different insurer every year :)
requote from AA this year: £220. - Insured with Hastings for £150 :)
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
My insurance was £1400 it's up for renewal in a fortnight I hope it's drops a few quid.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
First time in 17 years my renewal came in cheaper than the previous year and nowhere else could beat it. When I went back to eSure for a requote (whilst my renewal was being offered) it was £150 more.
This year only cost me £222. Very happy.
Insurance has been reported to have dropped this year, keep shopping about.

Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Quidco isn't as good as it used to be for insurance i remember a few years ago you'd get £70 easily. Mine actually dropped as well this year, think its the anti gender thing balancing out slightly meaning women are in for a shock.

I always use confused and gocompare, how much is "mental" to you? also the type of car and where you live make a big difference.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Here are my top tips for getting the correct, and cheap insurance.
* Obtain fresh quotes every year.
* Use all the main comparison sites, and all the single sites (as many as your fingers will type)
* Take note of the 3-5 cheapest, call them up and play them off against each other. Tell them the prices of other companies and see if they're willing to reduce.
* Look at QUIDCO and such for cashback offers. It may work out better to use second cheapest and get 25% cashback, than the top cheapest and get nothing back. Use your figures.
* Look to pay for the insurance annually, this avoid APR% rates.
* Look to pay on a cashback credit card, if you can use Quidco and A cash back credit card you can really rack up some change!
* Toggle your Excess. This is how much you pay should you make a claim. If it reduces your Insurance by more than your increased Excess, go for it. Higher the Excess the cheaper the premium, but keep it to something you can afford and make sure you don't put it too high to wipe out any reduction in premium.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
I've used Adrian Flux for last 5 years. Initially were a fair bit cheaper than the comparison sites, plus no spam!
That said last two renewals have been only negligably different, so I have just stuck with them for convenience.

Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Cheers guys. I've never found flux any good for me no matter what car I drive.
Audi 2.0tfsi drop top auto and a BMW 320d manual estate is what i am getting quotes for. Both around the 470 mark inc no claims protected. Multi car polices are actually much more expensive.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Tried all the comparison sites but found mine cheaper with Chaucer Direct
It is pot luck tho. What is good for one aint necessarily good for another
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Swift Cover.
Just renewed at £300 for the year, £50 excess and an extra driver all fully comp NCD protected, Legal cover included (was only £30).
Car is a Seat Leon Cupra (240bhp) in a Liverpool postcode. I pay it off in one go so no APR.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Use the comparison sites to find the cheapest company, don't click thru but instead ring up the insurance company and ask for them to refund you the referral fee they would have paid for the click thru on the comparison site, this usually is between 5-10% of the quote ;-)
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Another vote for the comparison sites.. I used to spend hours phoning round companies.. takes all the hassle out of it.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
BMW 320d for me is just under 200 through Aviva.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
esure here defo go separate policys most multicar are crap and are more expensive as mentioned
meerkat always seems to find me better details each year than other comparison sites
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Mine was cheapest with churchill. I always thought that they specialised in policies for older people. damn, i might just be getting older.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Last year mine was cheapest with Sheilas Wheels and this year their parent company esure matched the quote and I got £35 quidco too. Think they are cheapest for me because business cover is standard, don't know any others that offer that.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
Tried then all. I got confused with no claims discount. I got 15 odd years...but Adrian Flux asked how many NCB on the new car....which is new...so feck all?:(
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
NCB/NCD follows the person not the vehicle.
Whilst in theory you have 15 years + insurance companies only take between 5 and 7 as a maximum.
If you don't have your NCD active on a policy for 2 years, you'll lose them.
You can only use NCD on one policy, unless you split it.
Re: Who do you use for car insurance?
elephant for me, i pay around £450 on a mk 5 golf gti, not too bad got about 5 years NC built up, could have got insurance for £395 and a few others that were less than 450 but they were companies i never heard of but i got elephant to come down to my price which was good
