Re-installing Windows 10 on an 8.1 machine...
hi guys,
Quick question. I've got to go see a customer tomorrow who had a lenovo laptop running win10.
Sadly they took it to PC world and the gimps there re-formatted it back to 8.1 that was stored in the recovery drive and handed it back saying it was fixed, despite wiping everything from the drive apparently.
What the simplest way to get it back to 10?
Would the microsoft account, when signed in, flag that it needs the windows 10 upgrade and do it automatically?
Do i need to call microsoft and explain and they should give me the windows 10 key?
Last resort wind back the clock and put 10 on it?
I'd prefer to do it legitimately .
thanks
MML

If it already had 10 and that was activated, then just download the media creation tool, create a DVD or USB and use that to update 8.1 to 10.

Cheers carlover. That worked after a lot of hassle.
My problems arose after getting most of the way through the upgrade. However just as it was restarting for the first time it froze on the Lenovo splash screen. I force re-started it and still same problem. Tried resetting refreshing, and all other afvanced options until it came up with the dreaded domainuser0 login. Asking for a password, which doesn't exist.
Bizarrely the way i resolved it was change uefi setting to legacy boot and then it started up fine and activated with a fresh MS account. Very odd.
