MOT due. Faulty handbrake on Ford Mondeo
Just established after probably 2 months with no handbrake, the cable had slipped out.
Managed to get under it today and put it back on. Handbrake felt baggy, so tightened it using the adjuster above the exhaust.
Great! 4 clicks at full resistance...
Problem... Handbrake is still completely ineffective no matter how hard I yank on it. Hydraulic brakes all round are fine.
Any ideas lads? MOT due Tuesday and looks like its gonna be out of action now for another week unless I can bend my head round this issue.
Re: MOT due. Faulty handbrake on Ford Mondeo
Would say the arm.on the caliper is stuck in the on position, hence why the cable fell out in the first place. Undo the cable and make sure the arms on the calipers are fully retracting, if so then adjust up until the arm just start to move, else the auto adjusters on the calipers won't work. If the arms don't go back time for a new caliper. Unless it's got drums on the rear and that's a different story.

Re: MOT due. Faulty handbrake on Ford Mondeo
I had this last month on my Mondeo. Seized calipers both sides. Had to get two new ones new pads and went in on new discs too. 250s!
Re: MOT due. Faulty handbrake on Ford Mondeo
Already had new pads, discs and bearings all the way round.
Looks like I'm in need of new calipers now - definitely seized on.
Any suggestions for the best place to get them from? Tried EuroCarParts, but coming up as £60 each. Thinking just getting the Mickey Mouse ones of eBay instead - £65 for the pair.
Re: MOT due. Faulty handbrake on Ford Mondeo
Local scrapyard will probably be your cheapest place. Go equipped with tools as you will probably need to remove it from a car yourself.
Re: MOT due. Faulty handbrake on Ford Mondeo
Sourced the calipers which I've had a result on from a local scrapers. £20 the pair! Not fitted them yet, but hopefully they'll do the trick.
Seeing as my MOTs due, the Power Steering decided it was also time to fuck up. Got a nasty leak which looks like its coming from the pump. Checked the 'easy to reach' return hose. Seems fine. The supply one is hidden all round the engine and seriously hoping its not that!
Anyone able to get an exploded view of the power steering assembly before I attempt to dismantle it on Friday?
Re: MOT due. Faulty handbrake on Ford Mondeo
Finally got her back on the road.
Not too bad. Got all the parts needed for £40 second hand, paid someone £160 to fit 2 calipers, adjust the handbrake, bleed the brakes, install a new Power Steering pump and MOT it.
Well pleased... and with no advisories to boot. Result!
