huge news

I would like to make you all aware of some very exciting news...Microsoft has approved the development of a Plex Client for Xbox One.
That is correct, we have been granted membership into ID@Xbox specifically for the development and eventual release of Plex for Xbox One.
This is in no way saying that it will be coming next week, or even next month, but starting tonight I will be applying my first test code to an Xbox One.
More details will be coming soon.
Thank you very much for your patience in this matter, and thank you very much for your support.

Plex will stream your own media from your server.
XBMC streams from servers via repos online.

But XBMC also streams my own media from my own NAS?

This is great news. Thanks realmadrid :)
Plex allows you to create a network of people that you can share media with and in return access theirs (friends, family etc.)
I have heard of someone streaming to 10 or more clients at once ;)
Your only limited to the power of your server.
You can also install a few of the most popular xbmc add-ons through what plex calls channels.
This is indeed a great day for my xbone :)

This sounds like a winner, when this is out on the XBONE I can then move the PC from under the TV and put it upstairs in the bedroom to finish my full house of streaming TV

My house currently has
Living room
Revo with XBMC and PLEXBMC
Bedroom 1
Apple TV 1 with XBMC and PLEXBMC
Bedroom 2
Roku NowTV box with Plex
Bedroom 3
Roku NowTV box with Plex
All the plex stuff is ran from a MacBook in my storage cupboard with a few extra droves plugged in. It's a very crude server set up but believe me it works.
I also stream 2 iPhones and an iPad from it all.
Streaming around the house is great.
Streaming while on holiday is also good fun too.

Question on Plex and vpns, I started using privateinternetaccess recently now I cant get to my server when not on my network, I've been on the pia forums and its a flat no they don't support using Plex with their VPN service, which is fair enough anyone know a work around, I'm on virgin using the standard superhub as a router?
I thought of running Plex media server in a virtual machine and just not installing the pia software, seems overkill and not sure my n40l would handle it that well.

Can you not get the original plex IP address and manually add it when you need it.
I know you can do that in the app's

Bottom line Plex is the young whipper snapper that won't learn.
XBMC is the 'has been' grandad that won't listen yet tells you 'how it is'.
XBMC is great. Plex is incredible. Simple.
You decide.
Plex - watch, share, stream, android/ios, enjoy.
XBMC - watch, enjoy.
