My washer has failed, need help indetifying a component please

Morning guys, I got from work yesterday to find the washer wouldn't start... further looking I found the door wasn't locking after starting a program as it normally should, the icon on the display wasn't lighting either .

After changing the door interlock with a known working one I still had no joy, so onto checking the loom to the door switch for continuity and all checked out, so I removed the main PCB to find a burnt component with the tracks from this leading to the door lock, it looked like a wire wound ceramic resistor but I couldn't identify it because as I prodded the burn the thing disintegrated.

Now I have a photograph of the board and want to double check the identity of this component so I can hopefully get down maplin later when I finish work and get this sorted, I can workout the rating is 48 Ohms 5% tolerance but unsure of type of resistor

It's a 1 watt carbon film resistor, judging from the body colour. Wire wound resisitors are usually for much higher wattages than that resisitor could handle and would be much larger.

As said this is from a washing machine ... and is approx 10-12 mm length and 2-3 mm wide , if only one watt then why the stripped colours ? Or is this just the name for this component

lol got its a 1 watt carbon film resistor @ 48 Ohms 5% tol, but cant find one on ebay or maplins any idea's... onto rs at the mo ill post back

This is the closest they have ... would this do the job or does anybody have any suggestions? thnx b3

You could try 2 1/2 watt in parallel - need 96 ohm if you do that.

That should do the job. Its more likely to be a 47ohm resistor anyway because it is a preferred value. 48ohm is not. To me the second band in your image looks like purple not grey which would make it 47ohm anyway. (">

Door locks on modern machines are not as reliable as they should be. When they fail they quite often take a component or even part of the circuit board copper track with them. A friend of mine has a washing machine sales and repair business and I have repaired three or four circuit boards for him where tracks have been fried because of a faulty door lock. If in any doubt about the condition of the original lock I would fit a new or known working one, because next time, and with a new resistor fitted, the circuit board track may be the weakest link. (">

My parts arrived today and the jobs a good en ! I gave the board final look over just in case something was missed but it all looked ok.
To my amazement it actual worked first time but I ran it through a couple of cycles connected to the hose it the backyard for safety's sake but worked flawlessly .
