Re: Tethering Advice needed
Rather than purchasing a dongle, does she have a mobile phone that can tether and a plan that you could use and add a chunk of data for the month? That would be the easiest way with minimum fuss.
Re: Tethering Advice needed
Hi, thought about that first, but her phone is a very basic phone that's not even a smart one! Looking into it further, it's a Mobile Wifi devices she needs with a preloaded amount on it. £50-60 with either a 1-3gb limit on 3. Will keep searching!
Re: Tethering Advice needed
Are there any BT FON/O2 wifi hot spots in the area?
Re: Tethering Advice needed
Yes, there's a few hotspots but they need an bt account to use them. We are all either with sky, TalkTalk etc so no-one in the family is with bt. Would be far the easiest and cheapest way around it!
Re: Tethering Advice needed
You can pay for a bt wifi account if the signal is good enough.
We did it in our new house using the neighbours internet as there was a delay setting up our broadband.

Be very wary with the EE group since merging t-mobile and orange has turned off more and more towers. I'm meant to get full strength 4G outside but struggle with a weak 3G one and it has deteriorated over time. They actually let me out of contract ~ 18 (can't remember exactly) months early because I couldn't get a signal and they couldn't get me a femtocell.
There was an offer with t-mobile a while back where if you topped up a payg sim with a tenner you get 500mb a month free. Are you wanting to use skype FaceTime etc or just use send the odd email?
Re: Tethering Advice needed
Hi. We ended up with a £50 myfi unit from 3. It did the job needed and will be useful just to top-up in the future. Thanks for all the interesting replies, enhanced my knowledge on the subject!
