Junior Sea fishing rod and reel
Hi, thinking of taking my boy to try fishing, probably on the coast so just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to get him please?
he is 8 and I've seen the zebco spincast that looks great, I know it's probably not for beach but it's only for him to have a go really..

anything else I should be looking for please?

Following this thread as I would like to do this too.
Re: Junior Sea fishing rod and reel
Firstly what kind of fishing do you want to do..
That rod and reel combo is for spinning or lure fishing.
While spinning/lure fishing is cheaper as you dont have to buy bait it can be hard work and often fruitless and is pretty seasonal.
Bait fishing is easier to learn and you cast out and leave it alone for 10/15 mins then reabait and repeat. This can be done all year round.
For an eight year old I would reccomend and ten foot rod to start with.
Something like this would be a good cheap start then upgrade and spend more money if he gets hooked.
You would also need a rod Tripod if you are going to bait fish.
And of course some terminal tackle a basic two hook flapper and a six once weight would be a good start.
Use squid strips for bait or some lug or ragworm.
The best place to go and look would be the local tackle shop the often do good cheap combos and would advise on how your area fishes and the best places and bait..
Find out if the mackeral are showing in your areas (should be abou now) as this can be a grat start and they are great eating too..
Local fishing clubs are pretty good and often help the juniors along.
Read up about shock leaders they are very important unless you are lure fishing or using feathers for mackeral.
Ive beach fished for most of my life so fire away if you need anymore advice.

many thanks for your reply..I'll look into them, he's probably only going to try it a few times when we go away camping, maybe Anglesey beach/rocks etc..just wanted something to do while we are there..we won't catch anything...
I've already got some tackle(ron thompson evo surf 390..too big really) used about 3 times in the 7 years I've had it.lol..so I doubt it will be anything more than once a year thing..

okay, thanks for the advice, I don't really want to spent more than £25-£30 to be honest, he probably wont' use it again..or very little
he's small for his age and if it's too big or heavy he just won't take to it..
Re: Junior Sea fishing rod and reel
Have a look on the free selling sites there often stuff oin there..
The 10 foot rods are pretty lightweight and should be fine.
