I'm not in the trade but was looking to get parquet flooring about five yrs ago and decided it was just to pricey, even the reclaimed stuff was dear....
We also looked at bamboo as its supposed to be hard wearing and looked well but in the end the budget went over so we ended up with laminate which has served us well.
I used to work for a company called polyflor and their wood effect vinyl looked amazing when laid correctly but i think they only supply to the industry, Amtico do a good range and with boarders it looks shit hot.....
Both my son in laws are floor layers and my daughter works for the largest flooring company in the north west, she usually gets 60% off for any flooring i need, i can't promise but i will ask her tomorrow if she can get that.
I really want a parquet floor for the house we are doing up but I just dont think I can stretch to it . I need about 50m2. It looks fucking brilliant and lasts forever . I like the pattern you are going for, it will look amazing.
My mate has it in herringbone pattern throughout downstairs of his house, lucky fucker bought it cheap years ago and it had it in every room. BB - have you any exoerience of engineered parquet? I know its not as good but might be a compromise option for me. My sister has karn dean stuff in herringbone - which looks ace but I cannot bring myself to pay so much for what is essentially posh lino!
Really surprised that the engineered wood floor lot haven't got into this. Yes you'd get more waste/offcuts but would seem to be a simple thing to do. (Damn, just spilt my dragons den idea)
If you are looking at a Karndean style floor, have a look at Polyflor' Camaro.
A quality, cheaper alternative
Are you a floor layer prezzy?

Just so happens that my sister works at the little company called Polyflor but as you are a past floor layer I wont go on about how good the vinyl they produce looks when laid properly
Got the flooring now so should be starting the job in the next couple of days, will post some pics once done for anyone who is interested.
Where from mate? My Mum wants her carpet gone and replaced with wood flooring
Sorry for not posting back BB completely forgot about this, glad you're sorted anyway.
As I said for anyone interested I got the timber about 2:30 today so have now made a start
Just todays
Looking great so far that bb
Few from today showing the insert I am using in the square although you won't really see the effect it will give until the floor is sanded and coated.

I take it once you have finished you go over the top with a sander then wax or varnish?
Looks impressive Baldy.
