Re: Travelling info wanted
Yup Thailand is a wicked place to go to.
A great way to do some of South East Asia is to fly into Bangkok, travel up north to Chaing Mai and maybe pop over to Loas or fly to Vietnam for a few days. Get back to Chiang Mai and then travel south thru the rest of Thailand, through Malaysia (another great place to visit, the Perhentian Islands off the east coast are well worth a visit) and end up in Singapore (although i wouldnt stay in singapore for too long cos its well expensive!)
If you end up going to Australia you have to go to New Zealand cos the scenery there is fantastic.
Did all those places on a 9 month trip and it was bloody fantastic!
Next stop has to be the Inca trail!

Top tips above for SE Asia I would also add Cambodia, Sarawak / Sabah (the Malaysian part of Borneo) and Indonesia. India is a fantastic place to travel and cheap too - I especially liked the South - Kerala and Tamil Nadu as well as Goa and the Himalayas.
Thailand would be gr8 place to start and the last long trip I took in SE Asia I was spending roughly what you have budgetted.
