Damaged clear coat and faded paint - DIY refurb
The clear coat on the boot of my car has failed. The paint underneath has faded. I suspect a piss poor job of a repair is the culprit.
Can someone describe the method to repair if I wanted to have a go myself?
I've sourced the primer, paint and 2k clear coat. The wet/dry (various grades), degrease, tape etc. G3 and G10.
Questions:
What grade wet/dry to remove clear coat?
Do I use a rougher grade first (what?) then a less abrasive grade to finish (what?)
Do I need to remove clear coat from entire boot ?
After I've primed, do I resand? - if so, what grade?
Do I resand after basecoat? (don't think so, but advice please!)
Once I've then re clear coated, how do I finish to make it pop ? (G3 and G10?)
Ideally, I'd prefer to prime and base the entire boot lid - I'm not comfortable trying to blend, as I think it would look odd.
I'm basically looking for a step by step process. I'm comfortable in how to do it, just not in the method if that makes sense.
Thanks guys.
