Has anyone had any experience with these chips ?
How good are they?
Is there any advantage of having one at the moment as 64bit drivers/appz are not widely available yet? I.E Win XP 64 bit

All the reports I have seen show that the 64bit CPU actually runs slower than it's 32bit counterpart when it is running in 32bit emulation mode.
64bit won't be mainstream for at least a year IMO.
Hang fire & save your money.
All the reports I've seen say that these chips are about 30% faster than their 32-bit counterparts. The 64-bit version of Windows XP Pro is due out in spring/summer so it won't be worth bothering till then.
(Unless you're running linux or 2003 server of course...)
I've also heard a rumour that Micro$oft are working on an AMD64 optimised version of the OS rather than just the single flavour, Intel optimised versions they produce. If this is true it will more than likely mean that AMD will take the title of 'most powerful' processor away from Intel for the first time as it's only fractionly slower than the P4 3.2 Extreme Edtion (rebadged Xeon).
Cheers for your replies :)
I'll probably leave it until middle to end of this year to wait for all the problems to be ironed out with drivers/compatibility probs... Ect :(
Have to spend my hard earned dosh on summat else for PC.. :nowords:
Always best to wait, never rush in :thumbsQuote:
