TV Repair advice

Hello,

Posting to this forum after reading the sticky tv repair thread, not too sure if it is a capacitor issue, or possibly something else, so thought i would post. Any advice would be very much appreciated!


I have a hitachi l32h01ua, which seems to have stopped working, when the set is plugged in the LED goes green immediately, and the screen then fails to come on, or respond to the remote in any way.

Ive opened it up and checked the fuses and put a voltage tester on the power board output and its outputting the correct 240v, so im at a bit of a loss.

Any ideas?

I assume pressing the buttons on the tv have the same effect as when you try using the remote? Worth trying in case it's an IR receiver issue. Could be the power board but I'm not very experienced with tv repairs only having repaired a few myself.

i tried to turn it off using the "sub" power button (theres a mechanical power switch on the back) and it doesnt seem to do anything, the led stays green as if its turned on. il admit i didnt try any of the other buttons.

cant seem to edit my post. the sub button is a electronic "soft switch" on the side which didnt work, the mechanical "hard" switch on the back still cuts the power in and out but the side switch doesnt seem to have any effect. i put a voltage tester on across the pins coming out of the power board and it was coming out at 240. So surely the problem would show up there?

I've just replaced 2 Caps in a 32" Panasonic tv today, as it happens! Been meaning to do it for an age so finally decided to have a look at it. Found only 2 capacitors on the power board that were faulty. (tops of them were raised) Inverted is the norm!Just to be sure, they could also corrode or leak by the way! Bought 2 replacements (£3.00)
Replaced them and now the tv has a new lease of life :)

Heat the psu board with a hair dryer . Then try power the set .
let me know the out come .

Il open it up again this weekend Tony and have a look. And plug not really following the logic when I've already put a voltage tester on the output of the power board and found it to be good ie outputting 240 volts

The internal power board will take in 240v but it's outputs will vary at different points depending on where they go to other boards/ components. You may well be getting 240v near the input for the mains, but that doesn't mean the power board (which is basically a variable power distribution module) isn't failing somewhere at component level.

if I were you I would stay out the back of it b4 you electrocute you self !

thankyou for all the replies, havent had chance to look on here for a while.

plug i appreciate your vote of confidence! I now realise what you mean. as most of the work i have done is in computers, i made the mistake of assuming the fused power input was the input to the tv, and didnt realise that the top board was power distribution!

pretty sure ive identified the guilty caps now though. 2 are definately bulging and theres a couple more im a bit suspicious of!
