Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
Haven't used newsgroups in a couple of years after the clampdown and sites shutting left right and centre but I'm on the hunt for a few items of software and wondered about the options now.
Used to use a few of the mainstream indexing sites for nzb's and altbinaries for my feeds via altbinz.

Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
my sub to newleecher expires in a few days and for the first time in about a decade, I'm not renewing it. Unless its porn its getting increasingly difficult to find anything. Movies / TV are always taken down, apps are always riddled with viruses and at the moment I dont need to download any large game ISO or anything.
Over the last few weeks finding torrents is more difficult too, but in the case of apps, its far better to get them via torrents do to most torrent sites being regulated to some extent, or atleast having a comments box so you can leave a warning about bad apps if needed.
I know there are invite only sites for nzb (and torrents) which is probably the best way, im just sort of out of the loop these days after relying on newsleecher and supersearch for so long.
Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
Cheers Guys. I might sign up to altbinaries for a month for a couple of quid and give it a go, only need a couple of apps really so not looking at anything longer term. Can't afford VIP sub here at the moment otherwise I would certainly go that road.
Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
Been using Newshosting for 2 years since Easynews went down hill. Its be fine for me. Their browser software quite good as well.
Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
Newshosting here along with sabnzb to download and nzbdrone to grab all my tv stuff - can't fault it

If you're willing to do the leg work, the latest movie releases can be found @ alt.binaries.moovee - the files are coded, thereby circumventing take down notices, but are generally free from spam/password protected files. I download all the headers & open the .sfv files in notepad, i.e., 146518.sfv = the.drop.2014.720p.bluray.x264-sparks....
Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
I very rarely have failed downloads - for the times I do I use torrents but I don't really like using them

Exactly the same (y)
Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
I've just signed up with a Dutch provider and have found availability to be much improved over Astraweb.
Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
I use Astraweb at the moment and not really having any issues. Cheap too.
Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
Having a little dabble with Tweaknews this month as I've heard good things. Tried to get the New NCIS New Orleans. Failed miserably. Not too impressed. Confident that Newshosting wouldn't have a problem.
Re: Are newsgroups still worth paying for?
Just installed NZB Drone. Very nice. Now to see if I can install it on my ReadyNAS.

Yes. Sounds like the one I am with.
I have no problems at all. Very recently (last 3 weeks)... Things have become more difficult. But not impossible.
Plus... It is very cheap. I also use blocknews as a backup.
