Have I been conned?

At the petrol station this evening I was approached by a family in a car.

Irish dad, wife and three kids in the back.

The car was a reasonably new Peugeot with foreign plates, I'll assume southern Ireland.

Said they needed diesel but they didn't take euros and produced a €50 note.

I explained that I couldn't change that up, he said he needed a couple of quid for 2 litres of fuel, this changed to 3 litres.

Please understand it's the end of the day and I'm tired, thinking this sounds a little weird but hey, if I'm stuck with my family I'd appreciate the help.

I gave him a whopping 4 quid.

I've experienced trouble with gypsies before, I sensed a con, a bit like what are they trying to sell me.

I could have asked to see the fuel gauge but didn't want to get two close.

He thanked me a great deal but didn't go directly to a pump and lingered at the adjoining golden arches on his phone.

I'd like to think I helped him a little at 4 quid a time must be slow family earner if it is a con.

Personally I'd have filled up then realised my payment method was fucked.

Where was his plastic?

Don't help I'm watching the bloody IRA episodes of Son of Anarchy season 3 currently.

Yep, surprised he didn't try to sell you some lucky heather whilst he was at it!

Hardly a con, he was a beggar and you gave him money...

Should have swapped it for the 50 euros or at least have his missus give you a hand round the back. Bloody rookies ;)

Another con, whether it's beginning or not it was dishonest as it wasn't for the juice and they probably didn't need the money

More than likely the 50 Euro note was a forgery ... and you not having enough to change it ..He had to keep the pretence up and took the £4 as a bonus

I would be surprised if the Station would not accept the Euros especially in London. You only gave him £4? Tight git. Not going to get them far.

Was he the only one who came into the garage or was the missus doing a bit of free shopping whist you were chatting to him?

What is the minimum delivery of Fuel? Would £4 cover it....

I know my local Tesco take Euros in store - not sure about the petrol station tho. I'd have pointed him to the nearest Tesco and kept my few quid.

When I lived in Slough, all the local gypsies tried every trick in the book to make you part with your cash. I could type a dozen paragraphs on it.

An Irish tinker stopped me at the petrol station the other day. You can spot them a mile off. He called me over. I told him I was not interested. He didn't understand me. I told him I was busy. He still didn't understand me. I thought I should probably be a bit more friendly with a van full of tinkers, as my first 2 replies were fairly aggressive. I said, "Sorry, mate. I've got somewhere to be". He still didn't understand me. Cheeky fucker. It's his accent that is shit. So... I got in the car and drove off. Fuck knows what he wanted. But experience tells me it wouldn't be of a benefit to me. I drive quite a nice car and it was freshly washed. It did cross my mind that he'd offer me 5K cash or something stupid for it. Whatever he wanted, I wasn't interested.

Bottom line - Pikey cunt.
