Identify a blown component

This is a bit of a longshot but my mate has a Droidtv MX Android box and a component has blown.

My mate reported that the box locked up as it had overheated. I've removed the board and the component looks like a blown capacitor that had leaked its contents and then dried out. I've cleaned it with some Articlean and the component is just plain silver, no markings on it what so ever.

In the below image [not my pic], look at the area marked in red, to the right is a Geil chip, and to the right of that is the blown silver component with two solder points. The image is for a G-Box which the DroidTv MX is just a clone of but the component looks identical.

I'd happily try to get a replacement component, remove the blown whatever it is, and solder a new one on. I've just no idea what it is and trying to Google for a replacement component when I've no idea what it is, is proving difficult. I've tried posting on the forum which supports these boxes and surprise surprise, no reply.

Has anyone seen a component like this before and knows what it's called please? I can't seem to delete exiting images I've uploaded to my forum account so I can't post a photo. I'll also add that I've got chronic back ache today and I'm whacked up on pain killers so I may have overlooked the delete button!

I appreciate that it's not like a normal capacitor but how on earth would I know which type of replacement to get? Presumably they are not a 'one size fits all'?

It will just be glued to the board mate , the stuff you see is normal .

It was glued to the board so perhaps it's the glue that has melted, or it could be the plastic sheeth that seemed to be wrapped around it. At first I thought it had leaked [I don't know if these components can leak] but it could just be something that's melted. Looking at the photo of mine, it's black verses photos of other people's which is just silver.

It's a shame I can't upload a photo of mine as something definately looks wrong.

It looks like a crystal, which provides a clock (not a real time clock!). You need to know what frequency it was . I have never seen a blown or overheated crystal in 25 years in electronics though. Are you sure that is the culprit?

What is the designator next to the component .? X is often used for crystals, u for chips, c for caps etc

It really does look like a crystal , there are often 2 caps very close to one and it looks from the crappy picture that is the case.

I'm not 100% sure if I'm honest mate. It's the only thing that didn't look right.

The box itself is back together at the moment and the photo I have isn't a great shot of the board, more so the component itself. My toolkit is upstairs and the Mrs is in bed. I'll strip it tomorrow and have a look based on your suggestion.

Alternatively. if you drop me a PM with your email address I can email you the photo I have. Unless someone can tell me how to delete the photo's I've uploaded previously?
